Help! Is it normal for an 11 month old not to sleep with a cold?

I know my baby has a cold (temp, snotty, blocked nose, coughing) but I'm on night 2 of NO sleep 😣. His nose is extremely blocked, and saline spray/drops and olbas oil are not helping at all. He can't even take medicine without screaming as he can't breathe when I try and give it.

I don't want to take him to the GP with a cold but the constant screaming and lack of sleep has me at the end of my tether. Surely this isn't normal for a cold??

It's normal for my son. We're on day 3 like this.

Do take him to your gp if you're worried though.

The best advice we were given was to get him snot free asap , use calpol plug ins , make the bathroom a steam room a few times a day and use saline drops at each nappy change.

Calpol plugins are your best friend

Oh gosh Keys. Sorry your son (and you) are going through this too. Thank you for the advice. He screams like he is being stabbed when I give him the drops and then they don't work anyway 😢

Saline drops, sitting him in a steamy bathroom so his nose gets unblocked.

Olbas plug ins.

Raise his mattress slightly so his head and chest is slightly elevated whilst lying down helps with breathing.

Also baby vaporub on back and chest

Mine won’t sleep if she has a blocked nose as she can’t breathe and wakes up immediately on trying to sleep.

I was like a zombie for a while.

I also put her to sleep on her side with underside arm out front so she could easily roll on to her back which seemed to help a bit.

Other than that you have to just wait it out till he’s ridden out the cold. Poor thing.

I hope your baby is better soon too op , keep going with all of the mucus clearing and it most likely will work.

We even use a plug in during the day so that he feels the benefit while he's playing. Tonight he's slept in 2hr chunks so he is getting better slowly.

Suppository medication if he can't take it orally. Ask your pharmacist. We had to use these when our then 1 year old had tonsillitis and couldn't swallow.
