Meghan Markle looked stunning last night

She comes across as so articulate and polished. The belly cupping was a bit OTT, but the dress and her hair were fab. Feel for her, she has been getting such bad press recently.

I never come one these threads usually and I don't think I've had an opinion about MM before. Perhaps a vaguely "oh that's nice" kind of thought. But I was completely struck that every single photo I've seen from last night was a strange OTT bump trophy thing. Even the supposedly natural, candid photobooth ones (which have since been removed from Instagram). Like, she was doing a full on magazine cover pose, nothing natural about it at all (I speak as a woman who loved to touch my bump. I just never did the full "shoulders back, big smile, one hand above, one hand below" bump touching). I guess she's had to practise a pose/stand because she knows she'll be photographed a lot? Like all celebs have a "pose" they fall back on. She's just updated hers to include her bump. But it does seem quite starry, which I guess is why it caught my attention.

She did look glamorous but I am tired of seeing her cradling her bump. All this "look how clever I am" posing is wearing. I enjoyed being pregnant but didn't feel the need to go for an Oscar nomination all the time. You can stop acting now Meghan - you have achieved what you wanted!

On a general point about some trendy humanitarians, I am much more convinced by the people who do the un glamorous work with the elderly, with youth problems (eg knife crime and drugs) and with British wildlife.

OMG at the hate on here. Proper spittle and frothing. Horrible.

@Andhowcouldieverrefuse you’ve quoted me, and completely out of context. The ‘excessive belly cupping’ was in regard to the establishment view. If you’d read my post properly you would have seen I was hoping she did it on purpose to upset the establishment. No judgment here.

We see one teeny tiny snapshot of a beautiful pregnant woman with her hands near her bump, probably for a few seconds, plastered on every newspaper and website and suddenly she's 'permanently cradling her bump'.

No, no she's not. No more than you did, or I did, but we weren't being hounded by the press all day long.
Give her a break, don't believe everything you read, see and watch, think critically and wish her a safe and happy pregnancy.

Tippexy · 12/12/2018 22:15

@Almondio Quite ironically you should take your own advice. It wasn’t just for a few seconds. It was non stop for about five minutes.
