Nice cafes/places to eat near Waterloo station

If you want an interesting selection of places which aren't just the big chains, head down to Lower Marsh Street, which runs along the side of Waterloo station at a lower level. I like Four Corners, which does really good coffee, but there are plenty of other independent cafes/restaurants along that road.

Riverside Terrace Cafe or National Theatre Espresso Bar.

Walk literally 5 minutes down to Southbank where there are loads of food stalls amidst the Christmas Market.

Yes definitely go towards the river as you’ll have a lovely view. Follow signs for Southbank Centre. From there you have a choice of some chain places like EAT, or the Royal Festival Hall cafe which is at the riverfront. It’s lovely to wander up and down afterwards too.

Greensmith's in Lower Marsh is a lovely food shop with a cafe.
