A would you eat it thread...

In the depths of the freezer, we've found a joint of pork, frozen October 2017.
If it smells and looks ok when defrosted, would you eat it?

Not unless I was desperate - the quality of the meat will probably have deteriorated and become tasteless even if it's harmless

Seniorschoolmum · 11/12/2018 16:53

I’d check it pretty thoroughly, but yes.

I would - in fact I think I probably have! Grin

Monkeybunkey · 11/12/2018 16:54

I would, but then last week I ate burgers from the depths of the freezer that were best before May 2016 so I may not be the best person to ask (I'm still here though!).

BentNeckLady · 11/12/2018 16:55

I wouldn’t have even noticed tbh!

LoudestRoar · 11/12/2018 16:56

Thanks all! It's been defrosting and looks and smells fine, so roast pork for dinner it is!

As long as it’s been frozen the whole time and not accidentally defrosted and refrozen, then safety-wise you’re fine to eat it. Taste-wise the quality might have deteriorated, but it should still be perfectly safe.

DH just blitzed our freezer and found some of last years christmas ham. It's defrosted in the fridge. We were going to give it to the fox that runs through our garden but it looks so good DH might have it in his sandwiches.

Deadringer · 11/12/2018 17:03

Yes I wouldn't give it a second thought.

mortifiedmama · 11/12/2018 17:43

I don't ever check the date on freezer stuff!

LoudestRoar · 12/12/2018 10:24

It was very nice, and I'm still here to tell the story!

Nah

halfwitpicker · 12/12/2018 12:14

Ah, oops, sorry Blush

Glad it was good

Trills · 12/12/2018 12:27

Of course. A freezer is a time machine.
