Corbyn Campaign - British built

Corbyn is saying if he is PM then he will make sure more manufacturing is carried out in Britain. Wondered what people thought of this? My thoughts are that surely this can not be achieved without subsidies or tariffs?

How? That's my question. He's delusional.

Theoryofmould · 11/12/2018 12:23

What wowfudge said. The man appears to think he can return us to the 70's.

The 1970s when we manufactured crap!

It is possible with high tariffs or large subsidies. But goods would cost more.

They do make very good rum in Cuba, to be fair.

Morality · 11/12/2018 12:34

The man will not fool me twice. What he says and does don't match.

DGRossetti · 11/12/2018 13:01

The 1970s when we manufactured crap!

Only when we weren't on strike.

darklady64 · 11/12/2018 13:03

Of course! It's all so simple now Jeremy has put it like that. Why on earth hasn't anyone thought of this before?

The man thinks and acts like he is still in the 6th form common room.

UpOnTheDowns · 11/12/2018 13:16

More UK manufacturing as he blocks any chance of us remaining closely linked to our biggest trading partners? Great plan, Jezza!

AdamNichol · 11/12/2018 13:29

We can't compete in a global market for mass manufacturing. We have the potential to do so for STEM specialisms and innovation; along with software and similar.
But, my suspicion is that Corbyn awoke this morning expecting it to be 1972.

bellinisurge · 11/12/2018 13:58

He's an idiot.
No, he really is. I'm old. I've seen his type come and go. I've also seen British Industry collapse. There are things we are truly great at. Mass manufacture of consumer goods isn't one of them.

Morality · 11/12/2018 14:01

We have an aging population with so much life experience, this is undervalued.

DGRossetti · 11/12/2018 14:23

Mass manufacture of consumer goods isn't one of them.

And never was.
