EBAY Help me with this payment thing please

Sold a piece of furniture and the listing said 'cash on collection only' in BLOCK CAPS, very clearly.

I messaged the winner immediately, within seconds of the auction ending to remind them cash only.

They have now messaged me today (presumably without reading my message last night) to say they have already paid by Paypal and the listing didn't say cash on collection. (Clearly it did.)

I have asked them to cancel their Paypal payment- can they do this or do I have to refund him? And will this cost me something?

If they refuse, can I give them a receipt with their name, address and ask them to sign saying they have received the item?

Bloody people- so annoying.

Cash only if someone collects an item

If they refuse, can I give them a receipt with their name, address and ask them to sign saying they have received the item?

NOOOOO if they pay with paypal and you have no proof of delivery, meaning a tracking number, then they can claim item not arrived and get their money back.

As I said at the beginning Cash only for an item collected in person

It sounds like you've written cash on collection in the description rather than actually change the default payment on the listing that eBay automatically sets, because if you haven't changed the payments accepted on the listing then eBay will automatically direct the buyer to pay by PayPal!
So not entirely the buyers fault no!

I didn't think Ebay allowed you to opt out of Paypal payment? Is there an 'other' for payment? The point is, I messaged him before he paid. he paid today and the listing ended last night so my message would be there.

Given we are where we are, what do I do now? Refund him? Ask him to cancel payment? Insist (yes!) he must come with cash only?

Yes, I did, but equally I did message him within seconds of the auction ending to stress payment terms. He didn't read the message (or the ad!)

What to do now?

I would refund him via PayPal (it doesn't cost you anything I don't think). And then message to arrange a pick up time, telling him to bring cash on the day.

thecowinthemeadow · 11/12/2018 08:19

If you need cash on collection which is the best thing to do then refund him and maybe sent him a message explaining why and hopes he sees it this time?

Avrannakern · 11/12/2018 08:20

Go to your PayPal and click "refund" on the listing. Then tell him it is cash only, and send him a screenshot of the listing he bid in.

Tell him it must be cash on collection because you've had people in the past who have collected the item, and then claimed the money back through PayPal and without proof of delivery you couldn't defend the claim.

Yes, refund via pay. It won’t cost anything.

AnnoyedEbayer · 11/12/2018 08:25

okay thank you!
