Can baby go to nursery with a cough/cold?

Baby has had a bad cough and a runny nose for a couple of days.
Can he go to nursery or would I need to keep him off?

Are they otherwise happy? Mine have constant snotty noses since starting nursery so unless they were clearly unhappy I would send them

If kids couldn't go to school or nursery with colds nurseries would be empty all winter!

If temp is normal and baby is otherwise well she can go.

I think it's ok for a baby to go to nursery with a light cold, if they're feeling happy in themselves. Anything more than that (high temp, vomiting etc) plus clingy and sad and they should stay off.

If they're eating and sleeping fine and don't have a temperature there's no need to keep them at home.

As others have said above as long as they don't have a temp and are happy to participate then they are fine to attend.

I sent dd in when she had a runny nose/cough. Next day she had a temp and was lethargic and weepy so I kept her off. I think it depends on how baby is feeling. If he’s obviously unwell I wouldn’t.

ernjas · 11/12/2018 06:57

He's not eating as much as usual but still eating. His sleeping is quite bad and he's drinking fine still. He's okay in himself, just a bit over sensitive but I'm putting it down to his broken sleep! Just didn't know if it was okay to have a coughy baby in a nursery.

If you kept baby off for every cough and sniffle they’d never go in! Go by temp I think, if raised keep him off, if not he’ll be fine to go in.

yes it's fine. some babies have a permanent cold between october and march. nurseries cope.

PrimeraVez · 11/12/2018 07:51

Our nursery has a rule that coughs and colds are fine unless they are running a temperature and/or their snot is green.
