Does anyone else have flooring that just never feels clean?

I rent so have no choice about the flooring. It’s textured vinyl in the kitchen, hall and bathrooms. We’re a shoes off household so most of the muck is contained to the kitchen where we enter by the back door and take our shoes off. But even then the kitchen. Floor is never fully clean. It’s a large kitchen so lots of vinyl and the texture is a non glossy fine grain type that seems to trap dirt. I’ve spent days of my life on my hands and knees going over it square by square with elbow grease and a magic eraser. Mopping alone doesn’t do anything to tackle the ground in dirt. I hate it. Even after the magic eraser I think it’s clean and then I catch a shadow and realise it’s not. Add to that any time someone drops a fork or knife it makes a dent or slice in the vinyl which dirt gets trapped in. It never ever feels clean. And then I go to work cleaning other peoples lovely tile floors. I’m so jealous. Grin if I could afford to I would offer to pay for my landlord to tile the whole floor. It would literally make that much of a difference to my little life. Blush

It's a floor, people walk on it, nobody eats off it, I really wouldn't worry about it.

Yes! I have a floor in my kitchen that cost me more than the rest of the house (flooring). I cannot clean it adequately so have learned to live with the grot. It is terracotta and it looks lovely but filthy. It can only be cleaned Cinderella-style on hands and knees with a scrubbing brush and hot water (no mice and birds have, as yet, waded in). Stupid choice. Next floor will be something industrial/easy to clean - to hell with how it looks.

Well yes, you are right bamaluz, but I’m afraid this is just one irritant that I can’t shake. Grin i long for the day I can pick my own tiles!

I have ultra shiny kitchen floor tiles. They are a special type of hell. I clean them and as soon as you walk on them they get covered in smears. They never ever look clean. I'd literally have to clean my floor three plus times a day for it to look passable. They were here when we moved in. I'm convinced a man chose them.

Yep I have a few clients with those high gloss tiles and they are a nightmare!

Black high gloss sparkly tiles, they were here when we moved in too. They are never clean, always smeared and they show up EVERY-SINGLE-CRUMB!!! I hate them. I'd love terracotta vinyl Grin

I have lovely tiles. Except they’re not - they never seem to look or feel clean either. It’s a dark grey floor and is always covered in white bits. And the tiles are cold, unless I put on the underfloor heating which seems like a massive extravagance. I’m not sure what the ideal solution is.

I'd love terracotta vinyl grin

Grin the grass is always greener! Or terracotta-er!

Slate. They're horrible. And bumpy so have to be removed rather than covered.

Butteredghost · 10/12/2018 22:18

Yes I have carpet. Disgusting.
