Does anyone know what this icon means on my phone? It did an Android update last night and this symbol has appeared since....

It's Wi-Fi calling. Using Wi-Fi for phone calls instead of mobile network

Why would it do that demented I'm sure I didn't turn it on? Have just turned flight mode on and off and its disappeared and come back on...

Which phone is it? You can toggle it on and off. It's in your phone settings. Which mobile network are you with?

I click on phone on the home screen and go into the settings and this is where Wi-Fi calling option is (on my Samsung phone)

Just switched it off thanks demented I have no idea why it was on, perhaps due to the update last night.

I hope I haven't been charged. I don't have my data on and only use work or house wifi.

You don't get charged. It uses your existing data. Means you can make calls on Wi-Fi if there's no phone network. Mine is switched on too
