Extended Diploma Level 3 in Art - how worthwhile/well respected is this?

It's what DD wants to do next year at the newly opened FE college nearby rather than stay for 6th form and do A levels at her current school.

She wants to specialise in Art which to be fair she is excellent at.

It's all changed since I was a teenager so I've got no idea if this is a decent course or not! Will it get her into university for example (to do an Arts subject obvs)?

A BTEC extended diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels but not every university accepts it in their entry criteria so I would check that out.

I too would look onwards and see whether likely courses will accept it (I imagine they would).

A triple distinction D D D result gives the same UCAS points as 3xA at A level. With a BTEC you have to hit the ground running and work steadily throughout. Ask very carefully about how the course is run, usual level of results, whether bits can be redone if original grade isn't good enough. We found the whole BTEC process as clear as mud. (different course).

If you post on Secondary education there may be people there who can advise further.

Thank you both, I may copy my post over there! She's not sure what exact courses she wants to go on to do at university but is certain it will be arts based. She's pretty mature and hard working when the subject interests her so hopefully a BTEC will suit her.
