Interview for hospital volunteering - tips?

Hello,

My dd wants to go into nursing and hasapplied to be a volunteer at our local hospital - she is old enough as they’d take volunteers from 16. She has just heard that she has got an interview with the volunteer coordinator next week,

She’s slightly stressing about this interview as she thinks there will be lots of competition for voluntary positions from students who want to be doctors. I’m not from a medicL backgraound at all, so don’t know if this is true, but if anyone has any tips for what type of questions to expect at the interview, I’d be really grateful.

I know she can explain pretty well why she want she to be a nurse and she has volunteered at a local playgroup so she has got some voluntary experience already, but I have no idea how “competitive” this interview is likely to be,

Thanks for any advice

Where I am from nursing now goes to clearing and I am pretty sure that's even more so in England because of the changes to bursary/loan. Tell her not to panic too much about it, I'm sure it's more of a quick make sure shes nice and able to do the job. When I was on placement in a hospice the volunteers either did the flowers or did a patient refreshment round. I got in to nursing with no care experience, it really helps to have a few good highers (or whatever they are called now).

DD has been "interviewed" at our local hospital for volunteering. It isn't like a job interview. They basically checked to see how commited DD was about volunteering. She then had a DBS check (not applicable for under 18s), a training day and a blood test to check for TB. They also requested an up to date list of all her imminisations.

Hmm at my hospital we are crying out for volunteers! I can’t imagine it’ll be too involved, it’ll be more to make sure she knows what’ll be expected of her and just to do the CRB etc. Good luck to her. Volunteering is a great start to a nursing career.

Ah bless her, I did hospital volunteering before I applied to nursing. I learned loads. :)

My interview was extremely low-key, I think they mainly wanted to be sure I knew what I was getting into so I didn't quit three weeks in and waste the DBS money. What sort of role is she applying for? If it's a hands-on role in an adult setting, some knowledge about dementia would be good. Dementia Friends might have some resources she could look at and talk about.

Best of luck to her!
