New Zealand PM's speech

Her response in the news this morning to the murder of Grace Millane. A heartfelt, sincere apology on behalf of her country. A rare thing to hear a politician speak so directly like that. I think good on her, a thoroughly honourable thing to do.

AIBU (I think I am) but apart from Justin Trudeau that I can think of is it mostly female MPs who seem to be so open and willing to apologise? And not just do a half-hearted job with "I apologise..... I'm sorry if you felt X,Y,Z". I always remember Angela Merkel saying that her country has a greater responsibility to support Europe because of their "history". The elephant in the room and she named it.

Thoughts?

I lived in NZ for 7 years.

One thing that struck me the minute we moved there was how proud and protective Kiwis are of their country and fellow Kiwis. The incident with Grace would have been devastating and a massive blow to a lot of New Zealanders.

I heard the speech from Jacinta and it was exactly how I predicted it to be. Added to the fact she has recently become a Mum herself you just know it was straight from the heart.

Yes, it seemed to me a very open, honest, heartfelt and sincere statement. Just so different from the usual arse covering platitudes that we are used to hearing from politicians. I was quite moved by it. Hopefully, in years to come, it will mean something to the family.
