So basically, as soon as I conceived, i have had a viral cough which I can't seem to get rid of and it us that bad, i have got mighty pains in my ribs. Trying to treat with hot honey and lemon but my ribs are still so painful. This is my third pregnancy, also only been six months since I last gave birth. I feel so weak and nauseous all the time, this baby was not planned but of course, can't complain as were not being sensible. Is this normal after a couple of pregnancies? Any advice on how to feel better?

No advice I'm afraid, but sympathy and Flowers.

I had an awful cough through most of my first trimester when pregnant with DC2. I couldn't sleep, felt awful, my ribs hurt and i kept pissing myself. On my third visit to the GP I remember sitting in the waiting room, leaning against the wall, with tears streaming down my face I felt so shit. and thankfully they finally gave me ABs to help shift it.

One other bit of info - when I had an appointment with my obs consultant at 13 weeks, even though I had been on the ABs for a week by that point and was feeling considerably less bad, she was still sufficiently concerned to send me for immediate tests for a pulmonary embolism. Whilst unlikely, it is a risk during pregnancy in my case it wasn't, but I did get prescribed 2 more courses of ABs by the hospital.

Hope you clear your cough soon.

If you have got one of the respiratory viruses going round at the moment, you have my sympathies. Can I give you a tip that might work (and is drug free). Cherry juice. Nope, not joking, it really works to damp down the cough and thin the mucus to make it easier to shift. Tesco's cherry juice drink (it's in the chiller cabinet with the other juices) works a treat!
