Swapping from iPhone

My contract is nearly up and I’ve got the usual dilemma of staying with apple or switching to something else.

How easy is it to switch to android? Are there any phones you’d particularly recommend?

I found it easy I was sick of having an iPhone and crap battery life. I got a mid range phone (all I could afford) I got a Nokia 7 plus and I really like it. Had money been no issue I would have gone for a Samsung. There is a transfer your data option although I couldn't get every thing from my iCloud because I am not teccy enough. I got all my contacts transferred .

FoonaLagoonaBaboona · 09/12/2018 23:26

I was meant to say transfer your data app

Tuptup · 09/12/2018 23:28

I switched from an iPhone to a huawei mate 10 pro a couple of months ago after years on apple, was incredibly easy and huawei had an app that transfered all my pics across. Wouldn't go back to apple now!

Found android very difficult to adjust to after the user friendly iPhone. Too many buttons, not so logical. I had to give mine back after a week ! As a company I'm not a fan of apples values as such... but they make my life easy so I'm sticking with them!

PhaedrasChocolate · 09/12/2018 23:33

I switched to a Samsung Galaxy S6 last year after loads of iPhones. I'll never go back, I love it. I hated being tied to Apple for everything, but I was really unsure about switching. The phone people said I had 2 weeks to change back to an iPhone instead, but after about 10 minutes I'd made up my mind.

GroovieGazelloo · 09/12/2018 23:54

Took me ages to go for an iPhone. I can't see myself ever going elsewhere .

I love it's easy use, I love Siri, I love that everything's saved in my cloud account, that I can access all my computer documents from my phone, it's lovely size, how my Mac and my phone interconnect, that they're both light-weight and very reliable... and many more things. Smile

In short, I love my iPhone. 😊

I've switched to a Samsung s9 and it's a nice phone. They did the data transfer in the store. I couldn't transfer my ibooks over though.

Android is okay, but not as intuitive as iOS. It has lots of different configurations and more choice than iOS.

I don't think apple phones are worth the money, but I do still prefer iOS. I won't be going back to apple though as I think they're taking the piss with the price of their phones. This Samsung is lovely and it's far more affordable and you can use a memory card.

You don't have to change, you know. You could stick with the handset and get a £12 contract or go PAYG, rather than being on a neverending £40/month.

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2018 06:08

Interesting, lots of useful advice. My battery is terrible now (literally ticks down a percent a minute) because my phone is old so need something new. Will head to a phone shop and have a play.

Thanks everyone.

After years of being in love with my iPhone and never thought I would switch I made the switch to Huawei and I love it. It is so much quicker then my iPhone was. I struggled to find a case I liked for it but that is not a big deal. The battery lasts ages to

user1471530109 · 10/12/2018 06:49

I'm thinking of going back!
Been using android for roughly 10 years. Always apple before.

Sorry. That's not helpful. Android has been fine. A lot more for your money. Maybe it's because I've gone mega cheap with my last 2 phones (which TBf have been more than ok). But I've missed all the jazzy bits!
cant justify £50 a month though

OldGrinch · 10/12/2018 07:18

I switched from an iPhone to. Huawei 20 Pro last month and I will never go back to Apple! The Huawei is very easy to use and has an amazing battery life and great camera, also you get 120 GB of memory! Apple older phones are a joke in comparison and so overpriced. No contest.

ComeOnGordon · 10/12/2018 07:22

I’ve just ordered another iPhone because my old one has the same battery prob as yours - not a brand new one tho. They’re so expensive.

But I met a friend on Friday who has some kind of Honor phone - I’d never heard of that brand but she was raving about it and they get really good write ups. Wish I’d known that before I signed my new contract.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 10/12/2018 07:25

Dc switched from iPhone to Samsung. Less than a month later switched back. Nothing like an iPhone. Not helpful I know Grin

MeetOnTheSIedge · 10/12/2018 07:32

Apple stores are doing abattery replacement for £25 at the moment, it has given mine (a 6) a completely new lease of life. Only during December though, cost goes up after that.

I'm in the same dilemma, I want to pass this phone onto one ofmy DCs now but none of the newer Apple phones tick all my boxes, the 8 doesn't have a 128Gb option, the Xr is too big and heavy and the Xs is even more outrageously expensive. I don't want to lose all my apps and their data though, plus the whole family has Apple and its so easy to manage.

user8905 · 10/12/2018 07:49

The £25 Apple battery replacement programme ends on 31 Dec - after which it jumps up in price massively.

Eligible phones:
iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

  • iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus (Though you may be eligible for a free replacement, see below)
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus
