If a phone rings once what does this mean?

I'm trying to get in touch with someone who I've not spoken to for quite some time. When I rung them the phone rung once and went straight to voicemail. Could this mean they no longer have the number?

So, has he blocked you or not?

brizzledrizzle · 10/12/2018 05:06

It rings once and goes to voicemail on T-Mobile and idmobile

backendofabus · 10/12/2018 05:20

If the person has set up to not accept withheld numbers it will ring once then go to voicemail (at work our number is withheld as standard so if it does this we 1470 to show number and then it'll ring through)

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 10/12/2018 06:19

If I phone my parents mobiles and they are off or outcomes of signal it rings ones before voicemail mine and dh goes straight to voicemail. It is definitely not proof of being blocked.

HarrySnotter · 10/12/2018 06:41

I love how some posters can absolutely tell the OP that they're blocked, despite other people giving other possible reasons. It's all terribly dramatic! Grin

OP, DH tells me that if my phone is off (which is often is because of work), it rings once then goes to voicemail.

verite · 10/12/2018 07:59

My DH number rings once then goes to voicemail if he’s on tube for example. Pretty sure I’m not blocked!

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2018 08:02

Lol, at th blocked, if it goes to voicemail you're not blocked, 🤣

It means they pressed ignore on the phone, they didn't want to take the call, or it was switched to go to voicemail as they weren't taking calls.

Tuptup · 10/12/2018 10:27

if it goes to voicemail you're not blocked

Not true. On apple phones you can leave voicemail when blocked, the recipient just won't get it.
On android it goes straight to voicemail too when you block a number.

incallthebloodytime · 10/12/2018 10:38

You may be blocked

They may also simply have no signal, have the phone on do not disturb, or have been on the phone, seen call waiting and cancelled your call, or they might have lost their phone somewhere out of service

Nobody knows! You can find out for sure by leaving a message with your number and seeing if they ever get back to you

Willow1992 · 10/12/2018 10:47

If it were my phone, it would probably mean I had pressed ignore because it's an inconvenient time for me to answer the phone, not that I never wanted to talk to you again! Try again, if it happens again text them and then leave them to contact you if they want to.

User700 · 10/12/2018 17:19

rung again using dh's phone. The phone still only rings once and goes to voicemail.

Think it was 141 before the number try it that way to see if you get through

Witchend · 10/12/2018 22:01

You can set my phone to ring once then go straight to voicemail. It's useful when you're in a situation where you want to know it's rung, but don't want to answer it.

Anyone who needs to speak to me will leave a message, so I know to check it when I can. If I have it on do not disturb t goes straight to voice mail and I don't always remember to check.

VioletCharlotte · 10/12/2018 22:09

I think this means they've got it set to 'do not disturb'.

kmc1111 · 11/12/2018 00:44

You can absolutely get voicemails from someone you’ve blocked.

This isn’t proof you’re blocked, but if you’ve been trying to get in touch with them for a day or more and called at different times, being blocked is the most likely explanation.
