DD and stomach pain - help pls

DD (16) had an upset tummy on Fri eve. Yesterday sore tummy - straight down midline, under belly button. Worse when standing or breathing in. Trapped wind, we thought.

She had Deflatine and did exercises to expel wind. Ate breakfast and her tummy was instantly really sore again. She had a bit of a temp. Plus, one ear was very hot and red and she said she couldn't hear on that side. She had a headache all day Fri and yesterday - low-level, said her head felt cloudy. (But she has been working hard this week.)

Yesterday afternoon, she had a bath and hot water bottle, did more exercises, it got better. She napped - for 3 hours - then was fine in the eve - even after eating.

Today, her tummy was v sore in the morning - even after no food. She had Deflatine, did exercises, it got better. She had lunch. Instantly her tummy got very sore again. She's pale and a bit hot.

Went over speed bumps on the road home and that was very sore. That reminded me of a thread I read on here recently by an OP whose teen dd had suspected appendicitis...

DD's pain is much less when lying down or sitting.

What can this be? Help!

I think it's a phone 111 situation, OP. She's been in pain with other symptoms for two days, I'd get her checked out one way or the other. Hope she's ok.

GlassHeart1 · 09/12/2018 16:30

Could be an appendix!

JuniperBeer · 09/12/2018 16:33

No one here can examine your daughter. Seek medical help.
Ring 111. They are best placed to be able to assess your daughters symptoms and advise you.
Hope you feels better soon.

Problem is, the pain comes and goes. A bath helps.

I've got her to lie down and felt all over her tummy. Feels soft but it's sore to touch.

Her breath smells like poo, which I'm concerned about, but she had a poo today and it was fine.

I think I would pop her to OOH.

Could be appendicitis, could be a virus. But needs to be checked.

CMH123 · 09/12/2018 20:11

Please please take her to be checked, now. Breath smelling like faecal matter is a classic symptom of bowel obstruction, as is an intermittent temperature and pain that fluctuates. I saw that as a bowel surgery veteran. She needs to be checked, right now.

cheesywotnots · 09/12/2018 20:17

Please call either 111 for medical advice or take her to hospital.

WeAreSailing · 09/12/2018 20:18

OP there is a v similar thread currently running. Don't want to scare you but similar symptoms (including bad breath) and turned out to be burst appendix. I'd get her to hospital Thanks

HolyMountain · 09/12/2018 20:19

I’d be worried about the terrible breath plus the other symptoms.

I’d be asking a health professional for advice.

Wingingthis · 09/12/2018 20:22

Appendicitis typically starts with a pain in the middle of your tummy (abdomen) that may come and go.

From NHS website ^

I’d call 111 now!

anniehm · 09/12/2018 20:23

Out of hours gp - probably nothing but appendix is a possibility

Glitteryfrog · 09/12/2018 20:23

I thought my burst appendix was trapped wind...
Is she eating and/or being sick?

LondonLassInTheNorthPole · 09/12/2018 20:25

Appendix is a real possibility.

Did you read the updates on the thread you mentioned... Not nice at all

Please get her seen tonight. She needs a blood test and potentially a scan

Drogosnextwife · 09/12/2018 20:25

Jist call 111 not sure why you are asking strangers on the internet for advice when their are doctors and nurses that can help.

Wallywobbles · 09/12/2018 20:32

I'm the other poster with DD in hospital. I get the feeling that GPs are better at diagnosing this.

Her breath smelt like a cross of dog and poo. Speed bumps were an issue and a clue. At no point did she hurt more on the bottom right of her stomach. Her appendix was hidden behind her bowel in the centre of her stomach.

Try and get blood and urine work ups because you'll need them anyway.

olivertwistwantsmore · 09/12/2018 20:46

I’m asking on here for advice! I don’t want to ring OOH unnecessarily.

Wallywobbles, thank you. Best wishes to your dd.

She is eating. Not been sick. Her tummy is sorer after eating, but a bath helps.

littleblackno · 09/12/2018 20:56

Doesn’t sound to me as though OOH would be unnecessary. You have asked for advice and majority have suggested getting checked out. I don’t think I would be waiting any longer to be honest.
Hope all is well OP

Glitteryfrog · 09/12/2018 21:00

One thing to note is there isn't a test for appendicitis, it's a process of elimination and probability.

cheesywotnots · 09/12/2018 21:09

We can't diagnose her here, just call 111 and tell them her symptoms and they will help her get he care she needs, hope she feels better soon.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/12/2018 21:31

It might be appendicitis. It might be mesenteric adenitis. It might be a tummy bug, or constipation. But we can't tell on here! Call 111.

KittensAndChristmasCake · 10/12/2018 10:13

How is she today, OP? Did you call 111?

olivertwistwantsmore · 10/12/2018 17:21

She's better today, thanks. She's had no wheat/gluten all day and her stomach feels a lot better. She's slept a lot, but no temp, and no pain.

Thank you for all your help. I know it's annoying or bonkers when a poster asks for medical advice about their dc, who you can't possibly diagnose over the internet, but I was looking for ideas for what it might be.
