Which Combi Boiler should we choose - Vaillant or Worcester Bosch?

Our ancient boiler is about to go pop and we have to get a new one installed this week. We’re trying to decide whether to go for a Worcester Bosch which had the ‘Which’ best boiler award in 2017 or the Vaillant which won the award this year. Have done so much research my head hurts! The price and guarantee/service add-on offers are very similar.

Has anyone recently had either make of boiler installed and can give us some feedback? A trusted acquaintance who’s a gas fitter but hasn’t got availability to fit said go for WB every time. Others have said that Vaillant are brilliant. Help! Thank you.

Watching with interest as our boiler is on its last legs. Our engineer recommended the Bosch says it's the best by far. Really need to get it sorted.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/12/2018 15:47

They seem to be much the same, I think.

They are always the boilers gas fitters recommend, so I'd just go with whichever takes your fancy or the one the fitter you will be using prefers. Which is how we decided Smile

Had both, did not notice any difference. Get the better offer.

We have WB very happy with it.

Yellowpokadotbikini · 09/12/2018 15:53

We had a vailliant boiler fitted 2 years ago, had nothing but problems with it. However these have all been caused by the cowboy who fitted it, and vaillant have been out each time without quibble to fix it. Make sure you get the best installer you can!

I had a new boiler put in two years ago and had the same choice. My son-in-law's dad is gas-safe registered and I got his advice before deciding (he wasn't installing it). He recommended the Vaillant.

I'm happy with it so far (touch wood) so I offer that FWIW.

NicoAndTheNiners · 09/12/2018 16:00

I have a 16yo WB which has only had one hiccup in its life.

Oldraver · 09/12/2018 16:16

We went with WB and it has an 8 year guarntee. What doea the Vailliant have ?

Toomanycats99 · 09/12/2018 16:23

Do you know how big your pipes are? We had a loft conversion and as part of it needed a new boiler. We were due to get a worcester Bosch but it had a wider fitting than our current gas pipes.

We got valiant instead as it could work with smaller pipes and it's been fine (think it was (19 vs 22ml pipes maybe????)

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 09/12/2018 16:29

I had a Vaillant fitted 12 years ago and I've not had one bit of bother with it, unlike the Worcester I had fitted in my mum's house two years ago.

iLevictoiChete · 09/12/2018 17:31

I would always go for Worcester Bosch but I know very little about valiant. one word of caution - if you can't use your trusted acquaintance fitter then don't take the word of an unknown fitter that they are WB certfied. we were burned by some random bloke claiming he was WB certified and he wasn't. it makes a difference as if the fitter is certified it extends the duration of your warranty. ensure you have proof of certification before you pay.

Celeriacacaca · 09/12/2018 17:49

We're on our second WB in 24 years. The new one, installed three years ago, is fab. Much smaller and, touch wood, no issues while still under guarantee (has to be serviced every year to maintain 8 year guarantee). Our plumber said to go for WB rather than Valiant.

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2018 17:49

We're really happy with Worcester bosch

Onesmallstepforaman · 09/12/2018 17:59

I had a Vaillant in the house we bought in 2004 I replaced it with WB after numerous faults with the former. No problems since( fitted 2016

DoraJar · 09/12/2018 18:28

WB

confusedandemployed · 09/12/2018 18:30

WB all the way. Although we had a Baxi in the new house, 9yrwarranty. Halfway through that an absolutely zero issues so far.

Elfontheshelfiswatchingyoutoo · 09/12/2018 19:08

What's valiant customers service like we were same as you, got new wb and it let us down in weeks over coldest winter. Took serval attempts to get proper engineer out to re build it.

thecapitalsunited · 09/12/2018 19:13

Both a well respected brands. I have a WB and it’s been great so far. One thing that I have noticed in my area is that there are far more WB engineers than Vaillant so getting it fixed in a hurry should be easier if my usual heating guy is unavailable.

Inadays · 09/12/2018 19:35

Thank you so much to everyone who’s commented. Really appreciate it. The company fitting it are Vaillant accredited fitters which means with Vaillant we get a 10 year guarantee, plus they offer 10 years’ free servicing in the price. They are happy to fit a WB but we only get 7 years’ guarantee and 7 years’ free servicing. The main bonus of using this company is that they offer interest free credit for 12 months which is a godsend at this time of year :). Good luck to anyone else going through the same thing. We will make a decision tomorrow!

Quick update: we’ve gone for a Worcester Bosch Combi 30i which is being fitted on Tuesday by a local company who seem great and are WB accredited. We get a 10 year guarantee, and they can do the whole thing in a day. Fingers crossed!

I have always had Worcester Bosch but my plumber recently fitted 18 months ago a Valient boiler. It’s completely temperamental and turns itself off. I would not recommend Valient.

DrZoidbergsTentacles · 14/12/2018 12:12

Another downvote for Valliant - we had a 25 year old boiler in our old property that never had one hiccup. our Valliant boiler has needed fixing about 7/8 times in 3 years. You've done the right thing.

Lazybonita · 14/12/2018 12:46

WB every time. Our plumber won’t install anything else.

Scotinoz · 14/12/2018 13:03

We had this debate last year, and in the end had an Ideal boiler fitted.

All 3 had good, bad and indifferent reviews/points and in the end it seemed to be plumber preference.
