Please help me stop coughing!

I've got a cold with a horrible constant cough that's driving me absolutely mad. Literally all day long I'm either coughing my guts up or trying to suppress it. My throat and chest hurt and I'm very concerned for my pelvic floor!

Does anyone have any remedies? I've had cold and flu tablets and some (childrens) cough syrup, I've had plenty of water/fluids and hot drinks and I've not been without something to sip, I've tried sucking chocolate and sweets like my dad used to recommend (apparently it coats your throat or something but it's just made it worse if anything... will keep trying though ). Haven't got any Vicks and can't get any tonight as DD in bed. I can't think of anything else!

Oh OP! I feel your pain, as I am currently lying in bed trying not to bloody cough!!
It’s awful. Such a tickly, annoying cough. I’ve such a headache with it. I only started a new job last month but think I’ll have to ring in sick tomorrow if doesn’t improve.
I woke up and the first thing I thought was please let my cough be gone.
No such luck. Will try honey today definitely.

For nighttime coughing put lots of Vicks VapoRub on the soles of your feet with socks over the top. Has worked a treat on my children. I just wish I’d discovered it when my first child was younger as she used to suffer from terrible night coughing.

During the day I can highly recommend Throaties (Wilkinsons sell them). When I had bronchitis these were the only things which really helped with the cough.

A teaspoon of neat honey and keeping a window open all the time. I find that at this time of year with the heating on at night makes a cough worse. Hope you feel better soon.

I heard that you need to put Vicks vapour rub on the soles of your feet, then bed socks and the coughing stops.

I am sure you know more than a pharmacist regarding what a medicines does .

For the record, nightnurse CAN suppress a cough as it contains the ani-tussive dextrometorphan.
