Does this dress look horrible?

I’m (supposed to be) going to DH’s Christmas party tonight. It’s black tie, 4 course meal.

I bought a beautiful dress.. they didn’t have my size in the shop so I ordered it online and it didn’t come 😭 I had ordered a spare which also didn’t come!

I just emergency bought this and now I’m home I just think.. I can’t go in this 😬

It’s longer at the back than the front. (And looks a bit weird as I’ve just pushed my bra straps down)

What do you think? 🤞

I've been to loads of black tie events. Women wear all sorts of outfits these days. That dress, with the right accessories, will be fine. I'm at one next weekend and I'm wearing black wide leg trousers with heels and a floaty top thing. Lots of sparkly stuff and I won't be the most under-dressed there. Grin

"You look lovely, though I think you would look amazing in a floor length dress with a slightly tighter waist, you have a nice figure, show it off!"

Did you read that she's going tonight??

AdaColeman · 08/12/2018 16:01

You will be lovely in that dress with your hair up and some long earrings. Women wear lots of different styles to black tie events these days, so you won't look out of place at all.

Have a great night! Wine

Looking good, have a great time!

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 08/12/2018 16:04

Been to many black tie events. That isn't dressy enough. You need sheer tights, hair in an updo and a necklace.

CantsitWontsit · 08/12/2018 16:08

You can dress this dress! Agree sheer tights, massive statement necklace, dangly sparkly earrings, and bracelets. Hair definitely up, and get some higher heels on.

If you have a waist cinching belt then add that, you will perfect. Push the boobs up too!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 08/12/2018 16:09

I think it looks lovely. To make it black tie I’d add sheer tights, have an updo, dangly earnings, necklace, and do you have a black shawl?

DavedeeDozyBeakyMickandTich · 08/12/2018 16:09

Dress it up with nice bag, jewellery, hair up, maybe a posh wrap or shrug if you have one? Nude legs definitely. You will look beautiful regardless but pp are right when they say this dress isn't 'proper black tie', however, this is what you have to work with so use the previous suggestions and it'll be fine.

Lynne45 · 08/12/2018 16:10

Lose the tights and stick on some jewellery, it’ll be fine! Have a good night.

CantsitWontsit · 08/12/2018 16:10

Tesco F&F will have everything you need if you run out of time.

BooHasAPressieForYou · 08/12/2018 16:11

That's lovely. You need a big statement necklace. I would wear that as it's so flattering

AlexaAmbidextra · 08/12/2018 16:12

I don't go to black toe events

😂 I’d love to go to a black toe event. Would that be unwashed or gangrene?

AlexaAmbidextra · 08/12/2018 16:14

Add a string of pears

Oh God! This outfit gets better and better. 😂

Sallygoroundthemoon · 08/12/2018 16:15

I've been to lots of black tie dinners and this is perfect. Sheer tights or bare legs, killer heels, bag etc with your hair up and you'll look amazing.

EdisonLightBulb · 08/12/2018 16:16

It's fine and I agree it needs sheer tights, nice shoes and a bit of jewellery and you will look gorgeous.

GreenKangaroo · 08/12/2018 16:16

It is a long black tie or a cocktail black tie?

lazyarse123 · 08/12/2018 16:19

You look lovely, just needs a necklace. It's not tight.

grumiosmum · 08/12/2018 16:20

I go to plenty of black tie events and assure you that dress will be fine. Especially for a work Xmas do.

As others have said, you just need to dress it up a bit with some sparky jewellery & better tights.

You look great, hope you have a lovely time.

ILoveMyMonkey · 08/12/2018 16:22

It's lovely on you and very flattering, agree with the sheer tights and sparkle necklace. Have fun.

Chewbecca · 08/12/2018 16:23

Dress looks good, it just needs dressing up

user1457017537 · 08/12/2018 16:23

I agree with Regnamechanger that women wear lots of different outfits to black tie do’s these days. I’ve even seen cardigans. I think it is much more strict for men than women.

CollyWombles · 08/12/2018 16:26

No I didn't @regnamechanger must RTFT!

cleanhousewastedlife · 08/12/2018 16:29

Wear good perfume and smile. You'll look great. If your fellow guest are nice people they'll be pleased to see YOU, not judge what you're wearing.

HestiaParthenos · 08/12/2018 16:33

I'd add some nice shawl.
It's too cold to wear anything that doesn't cover the shoulders, imho.

EscapeTheCastle · 08/12/2018 16:38

You look really great. Off the shoulder is making it black tie suitable for me, very glam.
