What is the best supermarket vegetarian curry?

I used to really like the asda lamb rogan josh, but im wanting to go veggie (again)
Sometimes I like to treat myself to a readymeal curry, but the veggie ones just seem not that great a lot of the time.

I did however just have a vegetable jalfrezi from asda from their freezer section, which was pretty good and I would get again. Had a really rich flavour that some veggie curries seem to lack.

Anyone tried any good ones that theyd recommend. Cant seem to find any taste tests online.

Waitrose vegetable masala is the mutts nuts IMO, but it's not massively hot so if you like a hot curry you might be disappointed.

M&S veg masala. Yum!

Daria32 · 08/12/2018 14:44

Sainsbury’s vegetable biryani! Yum!

Another one for the M&S veg masala, lovely, and I’m not a veggie but this is my go to ready meal, when I can’t be bothered to cook.

GiantKitten · 08/12/2018 14:56

DH had one of these chickpea ones recently & said it was great.

It came from salmonella corner though at 1/3 off - don’t know if it’s worth £3.60 (let alone £4.50 Shock)

iceland do street food range of ready curries and most of the sides are veggie, they are very spicy and tasty two sides makes a very generous portion with a naan bread or rice

Branleuse · 08/12/2018 15:22

@isseywithcats Iceland have stopped doing the veggie streetfood curries - they only do the meat ones now. They were REALLY good.

I'll definitely try the M&S one. I try not to go to waitrose too much though, as I seem to spend a fortune. I did try one of their soya chunk curries once though and I couldnt even finish it.

Sainsbury's sweet potato katsu curry is my current favourite, I don't really eat ready meals and this is the first that I've actually enjoyed and look forward to

fivedogstofeed · 08/12/2018 15:42

My Iceland still has the streetfood veggie sides - really hope they don't discontinue them as they are so good.

Branleuse · 08/12/2018 16:15

mine still do the kale bhajis which are brilliant, but the others have gone. They told me they were discontinuing them. Maybe we all need to write in

doesnt Katsu curry just taste like chip shop curry sauce? Not that thats entirely a bad thing, as I love chip shop curry sauce, but I always want it on chips, not on veg

I’m mainly posting here so I remember replies tbh Blush but the Amy’s Kitchen ones (freezer section) are pretty good, especially the paneer one.

isseywithcats · 08/12/2018 16:53

oh sorry when i went in there a couple of weeks ago they still had the veggie sides thats a shame they are really tasty and a good selection

Notover13 · 08/12/2018 17:46

I’ve been to Iceland today and those little pots of deliciousness are no more, just mainly meat ones....

WildFlower2018 · 08/12/2018 17:47

M&S veggie one that's creamy with butternut squash in and caramelised onions. It's. The. Best. Ever.

hugoagogo · 08/12/2018 17:57

I used to love the Amy's kitchen one with peas, but I haven't seen it for years.

Ktay · 08/12/2018 21:10

You can still get the Amy’s Kitchen one on Ocado

foobio · 08/12/2018 21:13

If you're not being strict and still eat shellfish, the Sainsbury's prawn mahinaki (I have no idea how to spell it!) is amazing!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 09/12/2018 14:17

The katsu curry comes as sticky rice, sauce and breaded sweet potato. It's nice because you get the textures from the sticky rice and the crispy coating on the softer sweet potato

I like the m+s black daal but struggle to find it

fivedogstofeed · 09/12/2018 15:13

….off to Iceland to stock up on what they have left ;)

NormalPeople · 09/12/2018 15:35

The Spice Tailor black makhani daal kit. I add paneer & fresh coriander but is also delicious without.

LordEmsworth · 09/12/2018 17:19

Waitrose veg kofta curry. If it's in stock, it's often sold out...

Yourownpersonaljesus · 09/12/2018 17:22

Waitrose vegetable kofta curry is lovely. Expensive though - I only buy it when it's on offer.

Cross post!

The Iceland 'Streetfood' range vegetable curry is pretty good, the best one I've tried in years much to my surprise. Also their lentil dhal one is very nice. As a vegetable curry lover I've tried quite a few supermarket ones over the years, and not really rated any them tbh. So finding these,on my DD's recommendation was a nice surprise,
