Apologies if there’s another thread. I looked but couldn’t find one.

I’ve been following this week and devastated to hear that it’s now a murder enquiry.

Apparently there’s someone in custody?

Sadly she probably took way more precautions in South America where she was for six weeks and then relaxed when she got to New Zealand

There are scum everywhere.

I really hope this low life hasn’t got a proper record as it will look especially bad for NZ justice

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 10/12/2018 11:56

It's on the front page of the Telegraph website, published by the Daily Mail... I think we're a bit past the point of name suppression.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/12/2018 12:04

Just because it’s been published doesn’t mean there’s still not a name suppression order in place Confused

Grace Millane - anyone following?
AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 10/12/2018 12:06

Perhaps in NZ, but last I checked NZ courts didn't have jurisdiction over acts committed in the UK by the UK press / citizens.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/12/2018 12:16

Oh whatever @AvocadosBeforeMortgages. The UK press are bloody morons for publishing the name.

sofato5miles · 10/12/2018 13:25

NZ courts are for NZ jurisdiction, the UK and ROW won't be harming the legal case, unless there is something I am not aware of?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 10/12/2018 13:44

Well he was charged this morning in court so it’s public now

TheDowagerCuntess · 10/12/2018 16:40

Publication of Grace's killer's name could create a real risk of prejudice to a fair trial, which is why it has been suppressed.

If you're at all interested in justice for Grace, you wouldn't be in the least bit blasé about the fact that it's in circulation. Hmm

So well done to the British press. Not.

TheDowagerCuntess · 10/12/2018 16:41

In other words - this is not about protecting his privacy. It's about ensuring Grace, and her family's right to a fair trial.

Who doesn't want that?

TomPinch · 10/12/2018 20:07

Name suppression can be for a variety of reasons, including the causing hardship to the defendant. We do not know why the defendant's lawyer asked for name suppression. Here is a useful summary.

Name suppression in NZ

but last I checked NZ courts didn't have jurisdiction over acts committed in the UK by the UK press / citizens.

Probably correct, however, that was a very poor effort by the British press. I understand that the defendant's name is no longer published on UK newspapers websites.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/12/2018 21:52

Thank you @TheDowagerCuntess and @TomPinch for explaining what I couldn’t muster the patience too. Hardly rocket science is it. I hope the judicial process isn’t compromised by appalling judgement on behalf of the UK press. Honestly, this is making me angry just typing it. Idiots with no bloody idea and a ‘name and shame’ him mentality with little to no knowledge of the potential ramifications. Whatever the outcome for the accused the Millane’s will never get their DD and DSis back.
