Nearly Hit a Woman Tonight (Driving)

Babbling here because I’m a bit shaken. She was walking down the middle (as in almost along the centre white dividing line) of an A road in the pouring rain/dark having (I think) abandoned her car on the other side. I managed to stop in time and tried to ask her if she were OK - she shook her head but refused to stop. There’s nowhere to safely stop on the road and another car was coming in the other direction so I carried on and DD called 999 to report her.

Am thinking I should have stopped, but was worried it would be like pulling over on the motorway and someone would plough into her and then me. Am assuming the police wouldn’t be able to tell me tomorrow if they found her OK?

calling 999 was the right and best thing you could have done.
hot tea, warm bed - tomorrow will be better.

You did the right thing OP. I think this is a if it isn't in the news tomorrow then she's probably ok thing. Poor woman, hope she's ok and you Flowers

This is scary to read. Hope you are ok OP! I’ve had ‘near misses’ with people walking along dark roads with no pavement and it’s terrifying. Makes you angry too at their stupidity but sounds like this woman was upset.

If you also wanted to call 101 and give them your details and tell them if they can let you know any information regarding the well-being of the woman, they may be able to?

Hope you are ok, you did the right thing.

She definitely looked upset. There was a car pulled over with its hazards on on the other side which I assumed was hers, but in hindsight, maybe it was someone else also phoning the police. When I had to keep going to not be hit by the car approaching me I was just hoping she didn’t wander in front of them especially in this weather with poor visibility. It’s a 40mph road but most people go 50-60 on it - thankfully not me!

OK. Deep breath then bed! I will assume she is OK.
