Help! Accidentally ate 2 months out of date Camembert

For reasons too tiresome to relate, DH and I have accidentally just eaten about a quarter each of a Camembert that to my horror I have just discovered went out of date on 15 OCTOBER. 😱😱😱
I rang NHS 111 and their advice was to just 'watch out for symptoms of food poisoning'.

I've tried to induce vomiting (fingers down throat, salt water) but haven't been able to.

Please can someone out there tell me they have done this and not got ill. 😰

At least it had been cooked as that would have killed bacteria

Pfingstrose · 07/12/2018 21:41

I'd be worried too OP. Hope it turns out to be ok!

Hezz yes everything is okay (you are sweet to ask) - just frazzled with getting to grips with being a school mum for DS1 (Reception) and wrangling the twins. And work. Tearing around keeping plates spinning and not quite managing to stop every last one from crashing to the floor. Including stupid brown Camembert.

@lljkk I didn't eat loads, but neither was it just a nibble. I carried on eating it because I thought it was just overcooked - because it did not enter my head that DH would have ignored the fresh, new cheese on the counter and baked a rotten one from the fridge that I did not even know was there.

Okay. I am going to CTFD and drink the G&T that I poured at the start of dinner and didn't get to drink.

I can not believe you phoned 111 about that Shock

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/12/2018 22:07

I wouldn't eat cheese that looked bad but use by dates mean very little.

Camembert is usually not even ripe on the use by date but you should trust your eyes, nose and smell when deciding what is safe to eat.

I've eaten 9 month old feta and it was fine and so was I. But am interested to learn of the effects if any of cheese that actually was off.

Hope you're still alive OP. Your husband's uselessness has given me the rage though!

The only words of advice I can give you are:

LTB Grin

DownUdderer · 08/12/2018 05:25

I like to drink an alcoholic drink after anything I worry might give me food poisoning because it kills all the germs in my stomach.

echt · 08/12/2018 05:27

It's 'best before', not 'will kill you after'. It's cheese FFS

Superb post, Orchid :o

Update: NO FOOD POISONING IN THE ORDINARY HOUSE

Either I am basically some kind of food Chuck Norris, or more likely all of you who were rolling your eyes and laughing at my cheese-steria were right and even mould-ripened products are not especially dangerous. I LOVE YOU ALL. 😄

It will probably be because cooking killed any bacteria. Glad you are ok

abbsisspartacus · 08/12/2018 08:51

You feeling ok?

Desmondo2016 · 08/12/2018 08:54

I ate out of date feta once and was the sickest I've ever been. Glad you're ok OP.

@Destinysdaughter 😆 He is 🐑 🐑🐑 and remorseful this morning. I shall be magnanimous and keep it in reserve until the end of time.
