Perhaps I should have put this in AIBU
Around 9pm last night we had no running cold water and no toilet flushing facility...
My dh has spoken with the neighbours and turns out it's next door .. it's a stopcock problem ..but we are one of 4 adjoining houses that run off this water system ? ( Think thats the terminology)
They've had someone out ....next door has said its now going to ' Essex and Suffolk water" and they are now dealing with it
There is no timeframe
2/3 of my children ( both boys but I don't know if it's a boy thing ).have always held their poo until they get home from school / college..this has been a ' thing ' since they were little...now my middle boy will not poo at all.. we are filling buckets from the pool and flushing it but it's not ideal ..how long before I really need to be having serious words with them next door
They are aware it's them at fault but I seem.to get a laissez faire attitude about it
Boot on your foot how would you handle this and what kind of timeframe, given its the weekend, would you then think it's unacceptable

To be honest, if you have water you can use to flush with buckets it’s not THAT big a deal. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

You have a pool and a way of flushing the loo so I'm not sure what your ds poo problem is. If you fill the cistern from a bucket then it will flush as normal.

Sounds grim but I'd probably wait till Monday as it may be hard for them to get it sorted over the weekend. Get the dcs out and about walking or running around somewhere with public loos nearby and tell them to do a poo there?

Firstly your neighbour is being VU and should have let you know so that you can store water before they turned it off. Can't you turn the water back on in the street? I would be contacting the local water board asap to tell them you need the water back on as you have children and need water for washing/loos etc. Your neighbours cannot expect the rest of you to all go without water just because of his problem. If he does not have his own stopcock so he can isolate his own water supply, then he should be one fitted immediately so it doesn't affect the rest of you.

Meant to say contact the water board so you can find out exactly what is going on and when the problem will be sorted - at least then you are not relying on vague info from the neighbour.

how long before I really need to be having serious words with them next door
In 24 hrs they've had someone out and have now asked the water company to look at it, what else can they really do? It seems like they're doing everything they can?

Gramgram · 08/12/2018 15:14

Contact the water board yourself. At the very least if it isn't going to be sorted over the weekend they may supply a stand pipe in the street or bottled water.

Nedzilla · 08/12/2018 15:55

I don't think there is much more they can do either. Its just until the water board people sort it.

You have a way to flush loos so its not too major until next week.

Maybe all pop out to local swimming pool tomorrow afternoon. That way everyone can poop, swim and shower.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 08/12/2018 15:59

We had a burst pipe affect our village and after 24 hours with no water the water company brought out bowsers and bottled water. I would contact Essex and Suffolk water to see what their policy is.
