Just been very rude to some men on the train and now I’m both embarrassed and slightly scared

In fairness, they were rude first. But I am possibly the least confrontational person in the world (with strangers, at least) and I’m not sure what came over me. Bunch of laddy blokes, early 20s and clearly fairly well-oiled, being generally loud and obnoxious. Leering and commenting at some teenage girls who initially tried to ignore them then sensibly moved carriages. Everyone else ignoring them. I eventually got sick of it and went to move carriages as well but that involved walking past them. As I did so one of them said something along the lines of he’d happily fuck me even though I’m fat Hmm and others all laughed. Normally I’d just ignore but for some reason I turned round, intending to channel Mumsnet with ‘did you mean to be so rude?’ But what actually came out was ‘is there any particular reason why you’re being so rude today or are you always just a bunch of total cunts?’ Blush

Audible gasp from someone else in carriage, followed by rather ominous silence so I scurried off. Now sitting at the other end of the train shaking, mortified and hoping they don’t come to find me Confused.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/12/2018 16:11

That's immensely brave of you. Well done Thanks

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 07/12/2018 16:13

Round of applause from me to OP, don't be embarrassed! I wish I could let my inside voice out more often!!

LouiseCollins28 · 07/12/2018 16:14

Not awesome, sorry, not for me. Fine to challenge, but not good to reduce yourself to their level. I know I'm in the minority on this, but it ain't a good look IMO.

littlecabbage · 07/12/2018 16:19

Awesome from me! Sounds like you shocked them, and good. Well done, not sure I would have had the courage. How dare they intimidate any women, but especially teenage girls.

AllTheJingleLadies · 07/12/2018 16:20

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

BlueJava · 07/12/2018 16:20

Bloody brilliant!! LOL

WhiffofSnell · 07/12/2018 16:22

LouiseCollins - sometimes you have to speak their language.

bringincrazyback · 07/12/2018 16:24

Well done you! Don't feel bad about it for a second! Star

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 07/12/2018 16:27

OP I'm literally only a few responses down so haven't RTFT in full yet Wink but I needed to say - I think I might love you! Well done for standing up to such cretins. You've just had a massive adrenaline rush so that will explain now feeling a bit wobbly so try and stay sat down for a few moments while your system recovers.

I'm sure in a mo I'll read responses shocked at the use of the C word but in all honesty if I'd been sat in that carriage my anger at their behaviour would be more than my horror at your language.

Well done again that MNer!

RaspberryRipple1963 · 07/12/2018 16:28

You are awesome!

sickmumma · 07/12/2018 16:28

You were only voicing what everyone else in the carriage was probably thinking but too scared to say aloud.. well done 😁

HomerDancing · 07/12/2018 16:30

HAAAAAAA

well done !!!!

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/12/2018 16:31

Way to go op!!!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 07/12/2018 16:34

LouiseCollins I agree with Whiffofsnell. I'm sure we would all love to think of a witty yet cutting and massively eloquent ways to articulate our anger in these circumstances but when you're the target of such disgusting misogyny I think it's totally ok not to Play Nice.

Love that OP kicked back female socialisation today.

How are you now OP?

ciderhouserules · 07/12/2018 16:37

I read a totally fantastic comeback the other day (on MN I think) - when someone 'suggests' he could fuck you, you turn round and say 'No thanks, one cunt in my knickers is quite enough' (or one Arsehole in my knickers...' Grin

I am waiting for a chance like yours to use it! Grin

JingleBellsSitDown · 07/12/2018 16:38

Oh well done you! I would have shouted ‘well said!’ If I’d been on the train. As long as you don’t put yourself at risk this sort of pathetic pack behaviour needs challenging. As someone else said, they’d hate it if someone spoke to their sister/mother/girlfriend like that. Off to read the article about why they do (thanks whoever posted that too).

Well done op again op! Hopefully they’ll think twice about doing it again.

ParadiseLaundry · 07/12/2018 16:44

This reminds me of the time I was on an absolutely rammed metro and heard a woman say very loudly so the whole carriage could hear: 'GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF ME AND BACK OFF. TOSSER' to a man who was clearly groping her.

No one said a word but I was in absolute awe of this woman, as I imagine most of the carriage was so I'm going to say the gasp you heard was one of wonder.

Well done op 👏

MaryDollNesbitt · 07/12/2018 16:47

Oh god! This reminds me of the time I was on a train heading into London. Group of vile men who had clearly been drinking for quite some time were catcalling to all women getting on and off and making everybody really uncomfortable. Then this lovely looking young woman hopped on, and one of these wee arseholes loudly announces, "Fuck me. I wouldn't mind a ride on her!"

It was honestly like an out of body experience as I heard myself automatically respond (equally loudly and in my heavy Glaswegian accent), "She wouldn't ride you into battle, ya daft wee cunt."

Cue a near carriage full of people gasping/snorting/sniggering/laughing Blush Sometimes my mouth seems to disconnect from my brain, and it ALWAYS seems to happen when I venture south ... Confused

Huge round of applause for you, OP. Well done on calling them out!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/12/2018 16:49

Good on you for saying that to them Wine. Well said.

Sexnotgender · 07/12/2018 16:50

Well done for calling them out on being a bunch of arseholes.

They tend to get away with it because women are conditioned to ‘be nice’.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 07/12/2018 16:51

The best use of cunt I've heard in ages.Well done You

Hidingtonothing · 07/12/2018 16:51
