Is heart palpitations just before your period a thing?!

Does anyone had these? I've had them on and off for the last 6 months, and also had some chest pain and problems (serious things all ruled out fortunately)
That's all starting to ease now withe medication, but I've had the palpitations again yesterday and today quite strongly. I had assumed they were linked to my other problems, but as those have eased, I'm now starting to wonder if these are cycle related, due to when they've started.
Does anyone else get this? Any suggestions as to how to get them to ease? Thy're driving me mad! (and also stressing me out, which is probably then making them worse Confused!)

That's interesting. Did you find anything that helped, or did you just have to ride it out each time?

Have you had your iron tested? I think anemia can lead to palpitations. Do you have heavy bleeding?

IreneWinters · 07/12/2018 13:55

Definitely a thing. I used to have anxiety that was always worse in the second half of my cycle, and the palpitations went along with it, both caused by the anxiety and making the anxiety worse. I stopped drinking coffee and the anxiety and the palpitations have both improved hugely. I think I’m extremely sensitive to caffeine, so you might not find such a dramatic difference, but got to be worth a try.

Cyclical palpitations occuring just before your period are definitely a thing, unfortunately. As are increased palpitations during other periods of hormonal shifts - pregnancy, menopause etc.

If you've been checked out and are already on medication I'm not sure what you can do beyond the basics such as avoiding stimulants like alcohol and coffee, staying hydrated and trinig to relax(!) Have you checked your iron and magnesium levels?

I've been anaemic in the past a few times, so maybe that's part of it too. Will dig the Spatone out!
The caffeine thing is weird - I tried cutting it out a while ago when they started and it had no effect. So I started again - but \I can have weeks and weeks of drinking coffee/tea (a lot!) and no palpitations - but then suddenly several terrible days - with no change in my routine at all. That's why I wonder if my cycle is the cause (or main contribution anyway) - because otherwise it's totally random!
