I haven't got this bug yet. Am I safe?!

One or other small person has been defecating uncontrollably, vomiting or lying in a small miserable heap wanting cuddles on the settee since Monday. I've been in charge of clearing up and bleaching all bodily fluids and have been continuously exposed since it started.

But I haven't got it yet! Am I safe? I've been expecting to come down with it any moment since Tuesday, and I haven't. I really want to go out places tomorrow. Can I do that with a clear conscience that I'm not going to pass this thing on?

I'd wager you're safe.

Same happened in the VonTrapp household a few years back. Two small people and DH knocked out with a double ender - me: fine.

I always think 48 hours from the last vom you cleared up and you’re in the clear.

This is based on no medical knowledge and minimal experience, but has always held true in our house.

I'd go out now; you're unlikely to be spreading it around.

Knowing my luck I'd get it as soon as everyone else had recovered; but hopefully your immune system fairs better!

How long is is since you were last exposed directly to d or v OP? I would start feeling hopeful 48 hours or so after that, although the germs can survive on surfaces etc. for days and are present in faeces for weeks.

You're not contagious until you have symptoms though, so going out shouldn't be a problem.

Fingers crossed for you!

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 07/12/2018 12:01

As far as I was aware you don't spread it around unless you are symptomatic so unless you have the runs or have been sick you're fine to go out

Last exposure was this morning. Sad I thpught it was over as well, because it had been 48 hours since the last incident!

Kids definitely aren't going anywhere this weekend, safe to bet on that.

I actually think you become superhuman and don't pick up kids bugs after a while I've four dc and I never seem to pick up their lurgies. Despite cleaning up mountains of poo and sick.
That said when I do go down I do tend to do it pretty spectacularly!
