Got my annual cold, a bit earlier than usual this year. It usually gets me on Christmas Eve Grin.

Anyway, am I missing a trick? what are your absolute top tips for feeling just not quite so shite? I'm on day 3 so it's a bit grim.

Vicks. Chest and back and feet too.

Olbas oil

Hot toddy - tot of whisky or rum, honey, lemon, hot water.

Wine and Night Nurse. (Not at the same time; wine in the evening and NN before bedtime - this is probably not recommended by the makers of either.)

Cold and flu capsules!

goforkyourself · 06/12/2018 20:54

Antihistamines, lots of them on the first day the symptoms appear.

After that, garlic! Crush 3-4 cloves, fry them up with fresh chilis and mushrooms. You'll stink to high hell but your cold will go Smile

Colds are caused by a virus! You just have to wait it out. I do early nights and lemon and ginger tea.

FoodGloriousFud · 06/12/2018 22:08

Day and Night nurse every time!

Delatron · 06/12/2018 22:25

Lots of garlic and high dose vitamin c.
A herb called pelargonium is great.

TheBookThief · 06/12/2018 22:30

massive doses of vitamin C (way more than the bottle tells you, ideally use a high dose powder)
Ginger/Garlic/Echinacea/Lemon & honey/elderberry syrup/as much sleep and rest as possible.

as you can see I like to throw everything at it and hope something works.

sunsalutations · 06/12/2018 22:35

Vitamin D as a prevention. I take a fish oil capsule every day in winter and rarely get colds

sunsalutations · 06/12/2018 22:36

Failing that ... hot toddy Grin

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 06/12/2018 22:38

Camomile tea. Apparently it reduces swelling in the mucus membranes.
I add honey and lemon too and take a paracetamol with it.

Stupid idea.

ScribblyGum · 06/12/2018 22:41

Rest, fluids, paracetamol, vicks, audiobook The Meg about an enormous prehistoric killer shark.

GobbyMcGobshite · 06/12/2018 22:56

Cold and flu tablets. The ones where you take 3 in the day and 1 at night. Still feel like crap but you can at least get on with what you need to do without feeling like a zombie.

Lwmommy · 06/12/2018 23:01

Hot water with lots of lemon in it and some honey, the heat warms you up, lots of lemon makes it sour to cut through that gunky mucus feeling in the back of your throat and honey to sooth.

Also Sudafed! Full dose, on time throughout the day alongside plenty of sleep and good, healthy, comforting foods.
