O2 outage

Is anyone affected by the current O2 outage? I've had no 4G all day and despite what O2 have said, no ability to make calls or send texts either. We don't have wifi at work. It's been very quiet!

Yes ive been affected. Its a bit inconvenient but luckliy not affected me too much. I can imagine it would be a massive pain for those who really needed it today. It does show how reliant we have become on the internet.

CormoranStrike · 06/12/2018 18:32

I’ve has no access all day to data or messages. Started being able to get calls late afternoon - am currently at home and on WiFi/

JuliaAndJulia · 06/12/2018 18:34

Badly affected as my DD comes home by train & I collect her at station. Was a bit of a panic situation as I didn't know her whereabouts. And she was scared too S she travels alone. Anyways DH figured out that while calls & WhatsApp don't go through, text messages go through albeit slowly. All well and she's home but we all had a hour of frantic pointless calls and messages tracking each other!

GissASquizz · 06/12/2018 18:34

Yep and I'm stressed beyond measure. DS has a serious health issue and I like to be available at all times.

5SleepingLions · 06/12/2018 18:36

I've not been able to make calls either and had no messages or data all day.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 06/12/2018 18:36

I'm affected but it's not really affected me. I've used wifi when I can when out, and at home.

I tried to text DS (also on o2) and though it said not delivered it did send to him. Multiple times!

I feel for those who rely on it for work/health issues.

Hopefully it will be sorted tonight.

Itsanothernamechange · 06/12/2018 18:36

To make calls all you need to do is put your phone on to 2g only.

KenAdams · 06/12/2018 18:46

I tried the 2g thing but it didn't work.

Yes - luckily I was just at my desk today and didn't need a sat nav or to call an Uber or anything. It would have been a nightmare otherwise.

I'm surprised it's gone on for this long. I was expecting a few hours at most.

Due to be fixed by tomorrow morning.

This isn't a standard network outage. It's a massive infrastructure error. It's affected payment terminals and everything...

I've been without 4G all day too; but I suspected I would be after I saw what the issue was. It's not as easy as rebuilding a server.

AHeartAPenny · 06/12/2018 18:48

I've been out running errands all day and it was pretty inconvenient not being able to check bus times etc but not the end of the world. The end of the world was missing out on my eBay bid

Bobbiepin · 06/12/2018 18:49

Been without 4G and calls work most of the time but not always which is frustrating. DH is the same.

Sitranced · 06/12/2018 18:53

Is it having a knock on effect to those on Giffgaff does anyone know?

IWantMyHatBack · 06/12/2018 18:54

Yep, it's affecting giff gaff, Tesco mobile.. Any network that runs on O2

EffOrf · 06/12/2018 19:06

Tesco Mobile here 4g off all day and texts say undelivered but are in fact sent 3 times each. DS is Giffgaff and his 4g has been off all day, he did manage to ring me this evening.

Hope it is back tomorrow

megletthesecond · 06/12/2018 19:09

My local 02 shop said texts and calls were affected because people were overloading that side of the network.
I had a worried DS who couldn't get through to me on his way to meet me after school.

frankie001 · 06/12/2018 19:12

Yes been badly affected. I use my phone a lot in my job and will have a lot to catch up on tomorrow

CruCru · 06/12/2018 19:14

TfL use O2 to update all the bus times on the bus shelters - so the bus times app also hasn't been working.

RustyBear · 06/12/2018 21:59

It was off earlier, but it’s back on for me now, though only 3G, not 4G. (Berkshire)

asmallpapercup · 06/12/2018 22:48

Why has it happened? Will we be refunded for a days worth on our plans?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 06/12/2018 22:58

They haven't said any compensation yet - they've said they'll apologise in "an o2 way".

The issue is a piece of software that is being decommissioned; which has sent incorrect signals to core nodes. Those are not just UK nodes, but the UK specific ones were handling 3G by 9:30 tonight and 4G should be back in operation tomorrow by about 10am if not earlier.

They'll audit the system as a whole after it's resolved and look for other potential points of failure.

FourFuxxakes · 06/12/2018 23:04

I had no 4g but could receive calls & texts. I don't use my data much anyway so it didn't have much of an impact on me.

Dh's work's phone and tracking systems use o2 though so it's been a bit of a pain for them.

HelenaDove · 06/12/2018 23:23

Im Tesco mobile but pay as you go. It didnt affect me too much. I can live without mobile internet for a day but it must have been hell for people trying to run a business this way today.

Justlikedevon · 07/12/2018 00:16

On the one hand, it's been bloody awesome going old school. On the other, I didn't get chance to alert anyone that I was utterly uncontactable. I have lived, all is well. It's been enlightening as to how often I check my phone!

Shriek · 07/12/2018 00:26

Nightmare here with loss of contact with DC extremely stressful, plus payment issues.all day long and lack of contact with bank also as a result. Although it did give me free.parking all pm as the parking pay machines nr work didn't work!

Shriek · 07/12/2018 00:27

Also, it was supposed to be back by half 9 and still only got limited, maybe 2g
