Bought M&S gluten free bread sauce by mistake. Anyone tried it?

Seems a bit of a misnomer to say the least. Does it work? Or should I get the proper stuff? I know its easy to make but I want ready to go.

Not tried it but there was another thread recently about gluten free stuff...it’s not good
I bought a gluten free carrot cake from M&S by mistake and emailed them to say I had never knowingly eaten sawdust but I would imagine it tasted the same as the gf carrot cake
I’d bin it if I were you and get the proper stuff

My DD is coeliac so we’ve tried a lot of GF stuff. Some of it is OK, but most of it is awful.

She doesn’t like bread sauce so it’s not something we’ve tried, but on experience - it’s probably vile!

I've made my own GF bread sauce before and it was nice and very similar to normal. Never had the m&s one though so can't say if it's any good or not.

Chuck some bread in it. It'll be reet

I don't have to eat gluten free, but often prefer it. Can't beat a gluten free cake IMO. Just try it for goodness sake.

Fair enough people. I was going to keep for christmas dinner but won't chance a riot on the day, will try it and report back in case anyone interested. Thank you all.

I'm reporting back. Tried in on some golden chips today and, hurrah, to my surprise it was perfectly fine; pleasant even. Like the standard bread sauce, little thinner but creamy and well flavoured. Phew! Season's greetings to you all.

Bread sauce on chips? 🤮

MrsGollach · 07/12/2018 15:45

Thanks for that. It's great that gluten free food can taste so good now. As I said before I always prefer a gluten free cake.

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 15:52

I would have thought GF bread sauce would be OK. One of the main issues with GF bread is how horrible dry and crumbly it is. That's not going to be an issue in bread sauce.

Little, only for urgent testing purposesWink. Dipped them, like Belgians would with mayo. Surprisingly tasty.

You must be Scottish. Carbs with a side of carbs?!

(No offence to Scots as there's lovely food North of the border but a veggie staple seems to be macaroni cheese and chips!)

longwayoff · 07/12/2018 16:55

Could be. Off for a DNA test and a fried Mars bar.

@INeedNewShoes you forgot the crushed crisps on top of the mac n cheese! Triple whammy!

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 07/12/2018 18:08

Or macaroni cheese with chips and a little garlic bread on the side.
