All these years I've thought it was this but just realised it's "Oh bring us some figgy pudding" duh anyone else misheard lyrics?

I thought it was sticky pudding Confused

GinIsIn · 06/12/2018 13:36

My husband used to think the hymn went “dance then, wherever you may be - I am the lord of the dance settee”

Bezalelle · 06/12/2018 13:45

"Hark the herald danger sing"

LuxuryWoman2018 · 06/12/2018 15:23

‘Children drinking Christian wine’
‘Good tidings we bring to you and your king’ (only just found out it’s kin)
‘We three kings of Orientah’

And when I was little I wondered what a way was, as in ‘a way in a manger’ I figured it meant something like a waif

AviatorShades · 06/12/2018 15:33

'ang on! You absolutely sure that it's "you and your kin ?Shock

Bloody hell - things you learn on MN!Grin

Blackladybug · 06/12/2018 17:40

we three kings of Orientah it's not this?? What's the words??

turquoise88 · 06/12/2018 17:44

Surely nothing beats a post last year where someone's child was singing "the little Malteaser lay down his sweet head." GrinGrinGrin

Kenworthington · 06/12/2018 17:46

@Blackladybug ‘we three kings of orient are’

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/12/2018 17:48

Its ‘we three kings of orient, are....
Bearing gifts....’ etc etc

The other one commonly misheard is ‘good king Wenceslas’ often sung as ‘good king wenslas LAST looked out.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 06/12/2018 17:55

I know it’s not a Christmas one, but about three days ago I realised Aretha Franklin wasn’t singing about getting the liquid antiseptic out.

Up until then I thought the lyrics of Respect went “R E S P E C T take out the TCP...” when the actually go “R E S P E C T take care TCB”.

AviatorShades · 06/12/2018 17:57

turquoise...ahhh!Smile

My eldest used to think it was “the kettle are lowing” in away in a manger

10PollyPockets · 06/12/2018 18:02

My Dd sings "good timings we bring to you and your king" and "bring us some thingie pudding" which make me laugh, I do try and correct her but she insists she's right.

WaterBird · 06/12/2018 18:02

Also not a Christmas one, but the song "American Pie." When I first heard it I thought it was "And good old Borris was drinking whisky and rye"

WinterCoat · 06/12/2018 18:04

Oops I thought it was PIGGY pudding until 5 minutes ago....

LuxuryWoman2018 · 06/12/2018 18:15

Hmm, I’ve just googled the lyrics to ‘we wish you a merry Christmas’ and I’ve been singing it all wrong.

It’s ‘oh, bring us us a figgy pudding’ I sing ‘now, bring us...
And that verse ends ‘and a cup of good cheer’ and not my version ‘and bring it right here’

Very demanding those carrollers, they won’t go until they’ve got some, which is a problem as I have no idea what figgy pudding is.

HighlandWorrier · 06/12/2018 18:16

Haha these are great kept 'am coming Grin

OP posts:
Heuschrecke · 06/12/2018 18:18

So now I have an earworm of 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'.

Thanks all Xmas Grin

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/12/2018 18:19

And that verse ends ‘and a cup of good cheer’ and not my version ‘and bring it right here’

Well, it's wrong, because my carol book circa 20+ years ago had 'and bring it right here'. So there!

It was printed, so it must have been right!

LuxuryWoman2018 · 06/12/2018 18:22

Gets more confusing then *JamieVardy’ I’m finding a few different versions, I’ll stick with my traditional one as printed in your book, which must be correct.

keepingbees · 06/12/2018 18:23

When my son was little I heard him belting out "and a palm tree in a pear tree"

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/12/2018 18:28

I should hope so. I had to rehearse that version and sing it to a polite an adoring public for a carol service. I refuse to believe I spent all those hours studying songsheets that weren't the one and only Authorised Version.

BinksyB · 06/12/2018 19:21

Not a carol, but I thought the pogues sang ‘you’re an old southern drunk’ rather than the meaner ‘you’re an old slut on junk’. To be fair, they aren’t lyrics you would normally hear on the radio!

MacarenaFerreiro · 06/12/2018 19:24

My daughter say "Away in a manger, no crisps for the bears".

Ohyesiam · 06/12/2018 19:26

At my son’s primary I noticed the (otherwise perfect) reception teacher had the kids singing
“ glad tidings we bring to you and your king
emphasised by a “putting a crown on your head action”.
