Am I entitled to be given the numbers over the phone?

If not then if I visit the surgery am I entitled to a print out?

You're entitled to your medical records but usually have to pay for them. I don't think they always give results over the phone for data protection, as you could be anyone calling

I don't pay for a print out and i always ask for one.

My GP says I can get a print out of my blood results but the receptionists are always very reluctant. It drives me mad!

I had an argument with the practice manager at my GP about this recently. She argued that the receptionists could not give me my results verbally as they didn’t have the correct training to interpret the results but that they could provide me with a print out of the exact same results at a cost of £10!! The only alternative was to make an appt with a GP to discuss which I did and then suggested he discuss this nonesensical waste of his time at their next staff meeting

They often can’t give you results over the phone because they can’t be sure it’s you who is calling. They should be able to give you written result though.

My surgery has online appointments. If you register for this service you can also see your records online so when I had blood tests recently I could see the full results. Does your practice have anything similar?

BumbleBerries · 06/12/2018 13:33

Only the doctor, or whoever ordered the tests can give you the results. Receptionist/lab shouldn't be giving them to you.
You can request the results as in a copy of your record which the admin staff would have to give you, possibly charged, but the results might not be added to your record until the doctor has seen them.

mindutopia · 06/12/2018 13:51

Your GP would discuss them over the phone if you booked a phone consultation (receptionist, no wouldn't just tell you over the phone). But you should be able to get a copy if you go in. I've asked the receptionist for a copy and she's just printed it out. I did have to provide some identifying information so she could confirm it was me first though.

We can, and do, get ours online, as part of our online medical record facility. We usially download reports every six months or so, just in case they suddenly "disappear".

adaline · 06/12/2018 15:44

I can get mine online for free.

ChocolateTearDrops · 06/12/2018 16:39

Our test results are visible online in with the appointment booking and repeat prescriptions system.
