DD(8) is after a boarding school series...... which one would you recommend and why?

Was there really any difference between them?Grin
The only difference I could see was one had twins and one had Darrel.

RiverTam · 06/12/2018 11:37

DD (also 8) has enjoyed both - why can't she try both? We've got ours from the library or charity shop.

St Clare's at a pinch.

Stringofpearls · 06/12/2018 11:40

I marginally preferred Malory Towers as I liked the people better. Actually my very favourite was the Naughtiest girl series as the girl, Elizabeth, was in a mixed school and the students helped with rules etc.

TheHatOfDoom · 06/12/2018 11:40

Going off piste but: Chalet School. Much better than either of thise.

(Or if I really must choose between the two, Malory Towers)

FabulouslyFab · 06/12/2018 11:41

Malory Towers for me too, though I did read every book of both.

comeagainforbigfudge · 06/12/2018 11:44

Malory towers.

I read both but remember more about malory towers.

ScarlettDarling · 06/12/2018 11:46

Malory towers but I think you should get both!

NinaMarieP · 06/12/2018 11:46

Malory Towers. I like St Clare's but I always feel like she was testing the boarding school formula with St Clare's and learned from it before writing Malory Towers.

doradoo · 06/12/2018 11:47

No reason why she can’t have both! 😁

I liked Malory Towers best as well. Especially the fifth form when they put on the pantomime.

LauraMipsum · 06/12/2018 12:06

Malory Towers.

There's a narrative of bullying girls into social compliance in both, but it's less pronounced in Malory Towers.

If you can find them, the "Dimsie" books are really good.

Nottobesoldseparately · 06/12/2018 12:07

Mallory Towers

Clawdy · 06/12/2018 12:15

Another vote here for Malory Towers. Better defined characters, even if they're not all nice!

sweetkitty · 06/12/2018 12:19

I have Mallory Towers in my Amazon basket for DD3, she’s 10 and a prolific reader am always on the look out for new books for her.

EduCated · 06/12/2018 12:20

Another vote for The Naughtiest Girl series! The original three were my all time favourite as a child.

Rockbird · 06/12/2018 12:20

Prefer the Naughtiest girl books. Elizabeth Allen is much more appealing as a lead. Malory Towers is worth it for Gwendoline though.

purplecorkheart · 06/12/2018 12:29

Mallory towers at a pinch but really enjoyed both

doradoo · 06/12/2018 12:31

I’ve ordered both through the book People as they had a flash sale on them!

PinkAvocado · 06/12/2018 12:34

I LOVED Elizabeth in the Naughtiest Girl books. I think they were easier than St Clare’s or Malory Towers but still my favourite.

hmmwhatatodo · 06/12/2018 12:34

Malory towers all the way.

northender · 06/12/2018 12:37

St Clare's of the two....BUT definitely the Naughtiest Girl books. They were my favourite and dd loved them too. We still have my copies.

123kl · 06/12/2018 12:39

Malory towers has more bullying . But as a child I loved them both and didn't care although I disliked the mean bits. As someone else said chalet school is very good.

BillywilliamV · 06/12/2018 12:41

Just avoid the Naughtiest Girl in the School Series, That school is a bear pit run by a bunch of ferals!

Blueuxbridge · 06/12/2018 12:54

Or how about the Trebizon series by Anne Digby. I loved Malory but preferred this series.

halfwitpicker · 06/12/2018 12:55

Mallory.

Love Darrell and Alicia ❤️💖
