Comic-Con with the DCs - yes or no?

Trying to think of interesting presents for my DSs (14 and 12) which don’t involve screens / gadgets and have seen adverts for out local Comic con thing (not in UK) and wondered if anyone has been to one of these and whether they‘d recommend?

Neither DH nor I are particularly fans of this type of thing, but the boys are.....

If you’d recommend, would you also recommend the VIP tickets or just the regular?

Any other suggestions also welcome!

Never been to ComiCon, but it's a good time from what I hear. Would love to take DS to one of the UK offerings as he's just taken an interest in Pokemon.
Isn't the VIP thing mostly for talks and signings? Would depend if your DC give a shit are bothered about that kind of thing

I’ve only been to UK ones but I imagine they’re quite similar.

A big one such as San Diego or LFCC will have lots of talks and panels included in standard price, from big celebrities they’ll know. So you get quite a lot included for the price of the ticket.

Smaller ones tend not to have the budget for big name guests, and end up with random actors who were on Dr who back in the day, or similar. These ones don’t tend to have talks / panels, so the ticket just covers entry, and the main entertainment will be browsing the merch stands - quickly getting expensive!

whether or not to go for VIP depends on the guests and talks.

If you do this, add cash for merch yo the gifts. There will be a lot of stalls selling stuff and having a budget will control the begging.

Dd's been going for years and loves them, merch is expensive though
She generally goes to the Glasgow ones but has been to a few smaller ones too.

Thanks for the feedback, seems like a basic level ticket might be worth try then!

Worth it just for the costumes! My two loved it at a slightly younger age

Make sure you dress up!

We went with DD to the Manchester one when she was about 14/15 - I'd had no idea what to expect, it was a bit crowded but fun - I'd recommend it if your DC would like it.

FishCanFly · 07/12/2018 10:00

surely yes, its super cool. but look up the programme on what guests they get and what's trending.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2018 10:06

Actually, I liked it because it wasn't 'super cool' ... lots of amiable geeks, people harmlessly escaping reality, some families all dressed up (we weren't, beyond DD wearing a funny Star Wars- related T shirt).

Ellapaella · 07/12/2018 18:25

We've been as a family (UK). It's not my thing at all but I actually really enjoyed it. DH and the kids really loved it - we got lots of photos of the kids with their favourite characters. It wasn't a full day though. We were there for about 3 hours and then felt we'd done it all.
