It depends what we would do when we were there and what we had on the next day but I would say 2hrs max by car maybe 3hrs by train.

Tempjob · 05/12/2018 22:37

For a journey of 6 hours, we would organise overnight accommodation. Anything less than that we would break up into smaller chunks by stopping at parks or soft plays on the way.

Kintan · 05/12/2018 22:41

I'd say 2.5 hours each way would be our max (toddler).

limpbizkit · 05/12/2018 22:44

I'd say anymore than 3 it's definitely an overnighter (I have 2 very young children) may be different if yours are slightly older

Amazonian27 · 05/12/2018 22:48

2 hours max for a day trip by car longer by train now ours are teens

mindutopia · 05/12/2018 22:51

2 hours for a day trip (there and back so 4 total), but we’ve driven 9 hours in a day without stopping to stay overnight if that’s what you mean - just with lots of stops to eat and wee!

AtSea1979 · 05/12/2018 22:51

About 1-1.5 hours. Anything more and i’ll book a hotel and make a weekend of it. We do that quite often.

chillandrelax · 05/12/2018 22:57

2.5 hours, although have done 3 hours. We tend to meet half way if they live 2+hours away. 3 primary aged children.

wowbutter · 05/12/2018 23:00

Anything longer than 2 hours we discuss staying over x

KlutzyDraconequus · 05/12/2018 23:02

Depends on length of activity tbh.

If it was a full day in a new city with museums, parks, art galleries etc then I'd travel 2hours there.

If it was just to go to one place for a couple hours, no more than an hour.

Floralnomad · 05/12/2018 23:03

Depends what the event at the other end is , when mine were small we did Disneyland Paris by car as a day trip a few times on days when it was going to be open late , we live in the SE and used the channel tunnel .

beela · 05/12/2018 23:07

Anything over 2 hours I'd think about staying over. Anything over 3 hours I think I'd definitely stay over. Dc are 4 and 8.

Kikithewitch · 05/12/2018 23:39

Depends on the trip.
We did a day trip to London on the train from Manchester. Caught an early train there and a late one back, 2 hrs 10 min each way on the fast train, it was exhausting though.

megletthesecond · 05/12/2018 23:41

It would be 2hrs for me. I'm a LP and have to do all the driving and organising.

Twinklz · 05/12/2018 23:56

Thanks for all your replies Smile

Probably 2 hours if by car, maybe 3 if by train.

Twinklz · 06/12/2018 10:56
