Internet banking app help needed

My bank has stopped supporting my phone for it's app (or something) so it worked on my old phone yesterday but not on a new version of the same phone today

So I'll have to log in and use the little calculator to make payments to new people

Which is ridiculous

So is there anything I can down load to make payments or do I need to change my bank?

Is it the same phone number / type of phone? If it's Barclays you need to go to a cash machine for a verification code to set you up again.

If you're not with Lloyds, consider switching to them. They're amazing, twenty years banking with them and never a glitch or an issue.

How does it not work, and have you contacted your banks tech department about it ? I'd be surprised if they didn't support the currently available versions of Android or iOS - older versions, maybe. But there hasn't been a major release of either for a while now.

I have android 5 which is too old - I have bought the same version of the phone I had (because I like it)

But I can't make quick payments which is a right pain - like going back 5 years or something

I phoned the bank tech people and I am complaining; but they didn't stop if working while I had it but when I wanted to download it again they stopped it

Your bank hasn’t done anything wrong so you have no leg to stand on in regards to complaining. Old, unsupported phones will be more suspectible to viruses and scams, so it makes sense they would only support newer devices and software; particularly where money is concerned.

If you want to use an old phone where support is removed from apps that is entirely up to you, but that isn’t your banks fault.

KatyMac · 05/12/2018 17:58

Well it's a brand new phone, the model is 2 yrs old - there aren't many that come with keyboards & I can't use a touch screen as I have a disability

So I either need a new bank account or an app that can make payments for me

I'm well pissed off - I have been with them for the best part of 40 years

Even if you change banks, chances are their apps won’t be supported and if they are they won’t be supported for very long.

Old phones with old software are security risks and banks quite frankly cannot take those.

Fabulous starfishmummy I'll message you now.......

When phone companies accept not everyone can use a touch screenthings will be easier until then I need a work around

Would something like Monzo make bank payments?

OP posts:
Preeeep · 05/12/2018 18:23

Monzo is an online bank so you'd be able to use it for payments, requires android 5.0 and up. There was a forum post on monxo couple of months ago talking about how long they were going to support legacy android though as only 3% of android customers on monzo use 5.0-5.1 so you might be in the same boat shortly even with monzo

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/12/2018 18:33

You don’t need to have an old phone. There are keyboard covers for newer phones; take the Galaxy S8 Plus for example.

KatyMac · 05/12/2018 18:37

Well I tried asking for help

Anyway it's done now and I need to find a work around

Thanks for the info about Monzo - I'll keep looking oo I have an old co-op account I wonder how they are....

OP posts:
Preeeep · 05/12/2018 18:41

For coop you will need 5.1+ android for their app.

The problem is 7 is the last android system still supported, so with banking there's thr worry of vulnerabilities on older versions that aren't supported anymore.

KatyMac · 05/12/2018 18:43

Yes but I can't see all the older people who only just understand their phone renewing it every year...i can't be the only one that just likes what they have

If I attach PayPal to my bank account instead of my cc can I use that to make bank transfers? Are there fees for making payments?

OP posts:
TooTrueToBeGood · 05/12/2018 18:50

Have you tried using your browser rather than the app?

Preeeep · 05/12/2018 18:51

You can send PayPal to PayPal account and then the person could send to their own bank account, but you can't do just PayPal to bank account.

KatyMac · 05/12/2018 18:54

If you want to make a payment to a new person in the browser you need a little calculator thingie

Thanks re PayPal - I may have to start using cash again!! Dark ages!!

Just to let you all know, I woke up the morning after the O2 outage with a notification saying "do you want all the apps you had on your last devise"

I said yes and my banking app appeared! No idea how or why but it works!
