What the heck do I do with these?

Family tree magazines - a whole shelf full. Answers on a postcard!

Seriously though, I've got gazillions of the things covering well over a decade of editions, I need the space and they need to go now. I really haven't the heart to take them to the recycling dump, but I can't get anybody to take them off my hands.

I've offered them to the county archive, and local family history society with no joy. I asked at the auction house about selling them as a job lot, and they said there isn't much point in trying as magazine collections don't sell well. There are a couple of local charity shops but they'd have kittens if I took them in there, they'd take up too much storage space.

Local newspaper is pretty much defunct so I can't advertise in there, there isn't a local Freecycle page and I'd like to donate them rather than sell to a randomer on ebay.

Any ideas gratefully accepted Smile

local library? school?

Tartyflette · 05/12/2018 16:07

Put them on Gumtree, I got rid of loads of old music cassettes (free) that way.
My cactus plants are still sticking, though. (sorry...)

Our library is pretty small and it would be a storage issue - I might try the schools, if nothing else they can use them for crafts or something maybe.

Local doctors, dentists, vets, hairdressers for the waiting areas?

flamingofridays · 05/12/2018 16:21

is there any facebook groups in your area relating to it? you could try them if there is

happyclutterchucker · 05/12/2018 16:26

It was the facebook family history group I tried.

Not sure whether I could dump all of them anywhere like the doctor's for the waiting area, they'd need to reinforce the table... Can't face making multiple journeys to different places either.

We have local schools/play groups etc asking for magazines all the time on FB for craft projects.

Do you have a few local community groups you can offer them on??

happyclutterchucker · 05/12/2018 16:43

I've just found another family history group locally and have contacted them so fingers crossed.

Otherwise it will have to be a school I think.
