Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle

Not a journo!
Reading on the BBC today that most adults in the UK have an unhealthy lifestyle.
How do you think you are doing?
I’m vegan so very veg-heavy diet, run 40 odd miles a week and don’t smoke.
However I fucking love crisps and beer Blush
What about yourselves?

Diet: so so - I like sugar a leetle bit too much, but also eat a good variety of fruit and veg every day. Don't deny myself treats or pizza Grin.

I do quite a bit of exercise - weights, circuits, yoga, walks, runs, bike rides, but have a sedentary job.

Not a massive drinker - don't tend to drink at home, and would only have couple on a night out (often I'll drive, so takes the option away - or I know I want to exercise the next day, so 2 is plenty).

I think I'm ok, but really ought to reign in the sugar. I just don't want to.

formerbabe · 04/12/2018 13:53

I don't drink alcohol and I don't smoke.

I walk a lot but need to get back to the gym!

I drink too much coffee, eat too much chocolate and not enough fruit and veg I'm afraid!

LegoAdventCalendar · 04/12/2018 13:56

No. But I'm not bothered by it. I realise the possible ramifications.

Cakiekim · 04/12/2018 14:50

I feel there's always room for improvement. The one time I was satisfied with a healthy lifestyle was when I regularly attended fitness classes in the lead up to my wedding.

I don't drink often and eat more fruit and veg than meat but unfortunately the chocolate biscuits have crept back in, along with the winter cold! Shock

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 04/12/2018 15:54

I do lots of exercise as I love running. I also walk and cycle everywhere because although I have a car I am an very impatient driver and hate traffic. I only use the car if going on a long journey.

I do OK on the fruit and veg front in the week, rarely eat any at the weekend.

I don't drink alcohol as I don't care for it and don't smoke.

However I love chocolate and sweets. I eat quite a lot of both every day. My teeth aren't great as a result. I adore cake and quite often buy myself a box of chocolates.

Middling. Have never smoked, drink very moderately (these days!), dog walk twice a day, don't do a sedentary job, eat plenty of veg etc. However, I eat too much sugar (am addressing this now) and am a little bit overweight.

Narya · 04/12/2018 17:28

I don't smoke and my diet is pretty good lots of fruit and veg and not much sugar. Probably a bit too much meat. I do drink alcohol but within NHS limits.

My big thing is that I don't do regular exercise - I absolutely hate it and can always find an excuse.

BoswelliaGoldMyrrh · 04/12/2018 17:35

Diet... lowcarb-ish/primal-ish. Try to limit starches to a small serving of rice and potatoes a couple of times a week. Eat a shit ton of veg (official SI measurement) to replace the starch component. Very low sugar (I might buy GF cookies once a month). Don't like milk chocolate and I only like the high cacao content dark. One flavoured yoghurt/skyr a week. Eat stuff like lamb's liver/mussels/K2 rich cheese for the nutrients.

Exercise... pathetic really. 1 to 2 miles of dogwalking a day. Also walk into town regularly and to the supermarket for top up shops. Need to start running or cycling!

Vices... coffee every morning. Minimal alcohol - couple of 750ml bottles of cider or wine a month, shared with my DH. No ciggies.

feelingverylazytoday · 04/12/2018 17:46

Yes pretty healthy. Don't drink apart from a couple of times a year, don't smoke, am a healthy BMI (just, lol). Eat a normal diet with the odd 'treat' though I don't obsess about carbs or whatever. I don't eat meat.Walk about 10 miles a day at the moment and swim most days.

goforkyourself · 04/12/2018 17:56

I'm kind of 'work hard, play hard'. Gym every day, healthy diet but cut loose at the weekend with a few drinks and a kebab Grin

halfwitpicker · 04/12/2018 18:02

I'm very healthy really.

Loads of veg, lowish carb, no junk food. Little alcohol, too much caffeine though and not enough exercise.

megletthesecond · 04/12/2018 18:05

Yes.
I'm one of those annoying people who finds it easy to be healthy, I can have just a couple of biscuits. I also get crippling depression so eating well and exercise is essential.

crosser62 · 04/12/2018 18:07

Hmm I think I do lead a healthy lifestyle however my old lady check nurse a few weeks ago told me I could do better. I was SO pissed off with that.

I changed to a plant based diet/ vegan 9 months ago. So far dropped a stone.
Caffeine free rare coffee, maybe 2 times a week.
Strive to do my 10,000 steps a day.
T total, never smoked. Take supplements each day.
BMI on the overweight almost on the healthy now.
Cholesterol very low, blood pressure slightly raised.

The fly in the ointment is my job, very stressful and a mix of night shifts and day shifts. I do not sleep on nights, survive on about 4-5 hours sleep in a 48 hour period every week. This I know is not healthy.
I feel like death.
I will be a great organ donor though.

confusedandemployed · 04/12/2018 18:07

I drink a bit too much (but only twice a week on average), I've never smoked, generally eat well with the odd treat day, do lots of exercise. Could do better but life would be so boring!!

Ladominate14 · 04/12/2018 18:11

Lowish carb, lowish sugar, lots of protein and veg. Too much caffeine probably and my alcohol consumption could probably be reduced (1-2 bottles of wine a week).

Loads of exercise with running most days, and am very fit.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 04/12/2018 18:16

I'm not healthy but not massively unhealthy. I am a bit overweight, I like chocolate, cake and takeaways too much, but I don't smoke or drink and I walk everywhere.

happypotamus · 04/12/2018 18:22

No
I also have a very stressful, physically and emotionally demanding 13hr day and night shift job, which does not lead to a healthy lifestyle. On workdays I eat dry cereal at about 6.30am, a microwave meal usually some time between 12 and 5pm and maybe some biscuits or toast at some point in the day. I often don't eat anything on a night shift. I eat too many biscuits etc the rest of the time to survive the lack of sleep from these shifts and my DC who wakes me up most nights.
I don't have the time or the energy to do any exercise other than walking for 13hrs at work or to and from DC's school.
I have never smoked or taken recreational drugs, drink only a couple of glasses of wine a week. Feel like death most of the time due to exhaustion/ stress.

BadLad · 04/12/2018 22:37

Diet - Good
Caffeine - Poor
Alcohol - Poor
Smoking - Great (never done it)
Exercise - Great (walk over 30,000 steps on average and work out several times a week)

goingonabearhunt1 · 04/12/2018 22:55
