Agency cleaner or cash in hand?

I'm trying to hire a cleaner which apparently is impossible where i live. I used to have a cleaner through an agency who was crap (didn't clean very well, sonetimes didn't turn up at all) when i asked for a different cleaner i was told no one else was available which kind of negates the point of an agency surely?

Anyway, now wondering about just hiring a lady in the village. It would be cash in hand. I would have to get public liability insurance myself wouldnt i? Is cash in hand really bad?I'm trying to find another cleaner through other agencies but no one is getting back to me 😣

Also references. I'd just be inviting some random person into my house wouldn't i? At least an agency vets them. Anyone got any advice?

Cash in hand is wrong in my opinion. You have no redress if something is accidentally broken.

Why should they get away with not paying tax when we have to?

Cash in hand doesn’t mean they don’t pay tax!!! I’ve done plenty of cash in hand work before and always always reported exactly how much I earned to HMRC.

True. I'm just finding it really hard ti get an agency to return my calls!
