DS11 is getting his twin block braces on Thursday. I have bought calpol and bonjela. Is there anything else I should get? Any tips for helping him cope?

Wax maybe in case any wires rub. Has he to keep them in for eating?

I needed wax from the dentist to put over some that rubbed v badly. Other than that, a day or two of soup and sympathy and it's fine. Every time is tightened they hurt, so you adjust pretty fast.

Following as DD is about to have hers fitted too. She’s had the fixed ‘train track’ type ones for months, now has to have these as well, then back to just the fixed ones - it’s a long old road but they look so much better already!

Her dentist said it’s fine to take them out to eat, but just brush well and put them straight back afterwards.

He can take them out for eating and sport even though eating and sport is pretty much how be spends his entire day! Never heard of wax for braces? Will they sell it at the Orthodontist?

Yes they will. I got mine there. Dd had to leave hers in for eating. Apparently speeds up the process

My DC suffered from badly split lips from all the dribbling so a medicated lip balm would be my recommendation. We got the dental wax from amazon as that was easier then trekking back to the orthodontist. My DC still takes them out for eating but they’ve made a massive in just a few months.

They sell the wax at Boots as well

Dd has blocks she removes them to eat and for sports and has a denture box from Home bargains in a bright colour to keep them in. I have found them in her lunch box a few times I now check napkins and plastic boxes in her lunch box She makes sure they are in overnight, as this is the longest stretch they are in at a time and I go on at her after eating to "put your teeth in" She never needed bonjela, or wax. They gave her one tiny rub spot for the day when they got tightened last month.
Once her jaw is moved enough she'll get the train tracks to mve her teeth.
