Anyone else got this horrible virus/cold?

I've been feeling rubbish for over a week now - hot and cold, sore throat, ear ache, and I seem to be made up of 50% phlegm Envy
To be completely honest I've probably not helped myself, as I'm rubbish at being ill and although I've mainly stayed home, I work from home and so have struggled to just stay in bed.
To make matters worse, DP has now caught it so is also at home, complete with the dressing gown of doom, the ill shuffle, and what I must describe as the world's most pathetic cough.
Ah, the joys of winter Hmm

Two weeks later and I'm still coughing up the dregs of it. Getting there slowly though. Very slowly.........

Adversecamber22 · 03/12/2018 12:01

I had a dreadful virus and felt really very ill for two weeks.

Started with a sore throat for two days then I was so cold I just couldn’t warm up this was followed by a high temp and then terrible aches and pains for about three to four days with terrible bouts of sweating. I barely ate a thing for four days and could hardly stand up. I’m still not 100% and it’s two weeks. I spent five days in bed.

LionsTeeth · 03/12/2018 12:04

Uh oh, looks like I've got another week or so left of this then Sad I'm so fed up already.

I've just come out on the other side of it. Took me 5-6 weeks! And this is with the flu jab (early Oct).
It's been the absolute pits. Didn't help myself the first week, tried to soldier on with school runs, which I probably paid for.
I had mild flu, ie high temperatures and could barely get out of bed to wee. Dioralyte helped some. Then it turned into bronchitis, and worst of all infernal cough day and night (should have bought shares in Tena ...). Someone on here spoke to their GP who called it "the 100 day cough". I've gone through more ibuprofen, lemsip and strepsils than I can count. Ultra Chloraseptic throat spray was good for the week of throat pain. And there's nothing a doctor could do, rest is the only thing for it. (I do know the signs of phneumonia and sepsis and it never got that bad.) But I have barely left bed, DH has been (uncharacteristically) brilliant. Well he had no choice really.
Seriously, take it easy ladies!

"The 100 day cough" Shock
We've just run out of lozenges and I'm debating whether it's worth driving to the shops to get some more or if I should just stay in bed. Might be best to stay in bed.

LionsTeeth Stay in bed or you won't shake this until 2019. Ask for help.

LionsTeeth · 03/12/2018 12:28

Thanks vanellope. I've texted my mum to ask her to pick some bits up for us. I definitely want to shake it before next year Confused

P.S: Lozenges really do f all tbh, and most are full of sugar.
Get the Ultra Chloraseptic aneasthetic throat spray if you can (I ordered it in my Ocado shop).

My ex's 2 year old had it for a full week and was really poorly with it. Then she passed it onto her mother, my sons (her half brothers) and various other relatives. And now it is finally hitting me. Woke with a sore throat, headache and 'sore' lungs when I breathe, which is always my first sign of a heavy yucky cold. Joy...

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 03/12/2018 12:31

I'd also get Night Nurse capsules, when they worked it was lovely to get some sleep. And soup! Barely eating for the first 2 weeks did me no favours.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 03/12/2018 12:35

Roomba Yes, DD (7.5) got it in October, high temperatures that wouldn't really go down despite calpol, she was away from school 7 days which is unheard of for her. But she was alert, would chat and watch TV. Then I got it obvs, and christ it was bad. If there had been £100 on the floor there would have been nothing I could have done about it-bad. It felt borderline dangerous, an older frailer person would have ended up in hospital-type-bad.

Adarajames · 03/12/2018 12:47

I've a cough / cold but don't feel too rubbish, but I have TOTALLY lost my voice! To the 'I can't even squeak' point of gone! Never experienced that before, and although I can sign, it's bloody annoying as none of my family do! Hmm quite enjoying the quiet though!

Orangeblossom1976 · 03/12/2018 12:48

My ten year old was just off school for a week with it, very similar

balalalala · 03/12/2018 13:09

I've had it too, I feel like it's just started to ease and maybe now only 40% phlegm... As it's my due date today I'm pleased it seems to be on the way out!

HashTagLil · 03/12/2018 21:31

Oh yes, I completely lost my voice for two days as well. Took another couple of days to come back.

Vinorosso74 · 03/12/2018 21:36

Yes, started last weekend; felt better towards the end of last week then started feeling crap again last night. My head and sinuses hurt and didn't realise how much snot one can produce!

beeefcake · 03/12/2018 21:39

Yes on second week now and DH has caught it. It's a really nasty cold I felt somewhat better this morning and went into work but by the end of the day was feeling horrific again.
