Where to get rid of alcohol

We are tea total. I don't know anyone who drinks more than a glass of wine occasionally.

The issue is I seem to have amassed from tombolas, raffles or DD getting given the odd bottle from work now and then a stock of alcohol.

Where do people get rid of it.

Some of it is obviously very expensive wine.

(6 bottles in a hamper from Harrods and just had another hamper delivered)

Even got a big bottle in a case that is supposed to be around £850 for a bottle and this is a magnum.

The issue is I would like to get rid of it but I don't know where.

Is there somewhere I could get vouchers for something I actually want or somewhere it can be sold.

Those of you suggesting donating it to a local hospice or charity, the OP has already said
I am definitely not gifting over a £1000 to an old folks home

Good to see the Christmas spirit is strong here ;)

Oh and just while I'm being a pedant, it's "teetotal". Nothing to do with tea.

Giving it to the local hospice would be lovely. There will also be many local charities (eg Mencap) who will have regular events where they can use the bottles as raffle prizes or as part of an auction. Your local schools would also be very grateful for it for the same reason.

It sounds like you would also have enough to have your own charity evening for a cause close to your heart- hire a local hall (paying for it out of the proceeds) get lots of people together (you'll need to have more than just your social circle along obviously, as they won't be interested in the alcohol!) for a fundraising evening, and the alcohol can form part of an auction. Local businesses may well also donate auction prizes. It would be a fun evening, and the alcohol you have lying around will ultimately make a real difference to your community.

This seems like such a non issue. Do you not give thank you gifts to teachers, assistants, nurses, bin men etc?

You’re focusing on the one bottle that was once apparently worth something. Just donate or regift, no need to overthink it so much. You seem grabby.

When I go out I want to have a giggle. I want to be having a good chat and catch up and generally when I go out with my non drinking friends laughing so hard that Tena lady would come in handy.

That's pretty much how lunches and evenings out with my drinking friends go. It is possible to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with a meal without becoming incoherent.

Ceilingrose · 06/12/2018 16:33

I'm surprised you haven't thought of EBay.

Chathamhouserules · 06/12/2018 16:36

Why does your dd take the wine?

Ragwort · 06/12/2018 16:36

Surely you must know local organisations/charities who hold fund raising raffles that you can donate it all to? And I find it really odd that you don’t know anyone who would appreciate a few bottles of wine Hmm, work colleagues, neighbours, parents of your teenager’s friends, the Postman (instead of a Christmas tip)???

loveka · 06/12/2018 16:44

Amibeing that was very funny! Reading this thread trying to work it out, you have summed it up marvellously!

The OP doesn't associate with those kind of people, don't you know.

PepsiLola · 06/12/2018 16:51

Our local hospices take alcohol

Chathamhouserules · 06/12/2018 17:02

Why don't you just give it away to someone who would take pleasure from it? You didn't buy it in the first place. And you might feel a frisson of happiness from making others happy.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 06/12/2018 17:03

I bet a night you with you and your mates is a right laugh 😂

Admit you're being a grabby cow and just want to make some cash rather than actually donate the wine to a good cause.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 06/12/2018 17:04

Out**

californiascreaming · 06/12/2018 17:08

What a weird thread. I think what the op really wanted to say say is I have have a have a load of alcohol taking up space but what's the best way to make some cash from it.
Also let's throw in a handful of judgement about people that drink alcohol...

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 06/12/2018 17:17

Admit you're being a grabby cow and just want to make some cash rather than actually donate the wine to a good cause.

Sad thing is, going on what the OP has said here, she could still make a shit load of cash on a couple of the bottles and donate the rest to really help some other people. Really this thread could have been kept much simpler with the question "I don't drink but have some nice bottles of wine, anyone know where I can sell them as I need the money". No need to be judgey or goady.

BoswellTheUnreal · 06/12/2018 17:21

Ebay do not permit the sale of alcohol.

People will still keep suggesting it though.

MrsGrindah · 06/12/2018 20:50

Have you thought about EBay?

MrsGrindah · 06/12/2018 20:51

Sorry I’m just pissed

LoniceraJaponica · 06/12/2018 23:56

This is a really odd thread. Do non drinkers really assume that drinking alcohol is an all or nothing thing?

We have an alcoholic in the family, and DD's boyfriend drinks too much, but everyone else I know will drink maybe two or three drinks and then stop. They don't become boring or loud, they can follow conversations easily, don't interrupt or behave irrationally or end up crying. You clearly have friends who don't drink at all and know some people who don't know when to stop.

Most people are sensible about drinking.

Are you a member of a religious cult?

Amibeingnaive · 07/12/2018 00:12

Yeah, sod those old folks. Probably pissheads.

A rudimentary google would have led you to any number of wine brokers. This is a very poorly-executed attempt at virtue-signalling.

A bottle of wine over dinner doesn't turn you into the bastard love-child of George Best and Oliver Reed. Unclench.
