Where to get rid of alcohol

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/12/2018 11:28

We are tea total. I don't know anyone who drinks more than a glass of wine occasionally.

The issue is I seem to have amassed from tombolas, raffles or DD getting given the odd bottle from work now and then a stock of alcohol.

Where do people get rid of it.

Some of it is obviously very expensive wine.

(6 bottles in a hamper from Harrods and just had another hamper delivered)

Even got a big bottle in a case that is supposed to be around £850 for a bottle and this is a magnum.

The issue is I would like to get rid of it but I don't know where.

Is there somewhere I could get vouchers for something I actually want or somewhere it can be sold.

I can help you with this problem - send it to me & I'll dispose of it for you.

Hereharehere1 · 03/12/2018 23:07

bidforwine.com is your best bet for selling your wine. It’s essentially an eBay for wine/spirits. Very easy to use. No matter where you sell your wine you’re unlikely to get market value due to it being stored at home.

"A few glasses were poured and were handed round but most just stuck to water and passed the glass on. 1 bottle between 30 seemed about right."

This is very unusual. I agree that too many people drink too much, but I am struggling to believe that you eat out with friends who only drink water all the time. Are you religious?

Surely in a group of 30 you wouldn't have 30 drivers?

Passed the glass on around the table?

Not so keen on alcohol but definitely up for a swoosh of everyone’s germs Grin

Amibeingnaive

You just made me spray, and it wasn't tea. Grin

teachergirl2011 · 03/12/2018 23:48

Where are you based? We will have it x

SleepingStandingUp · 04/12/2018 00:24

1 bottle between 30 seemed about right
It would be 3 at a push. But if you're all driving why even order alcohol.
Daughter surely should. Just turn it down so someone who wants it can take it rather than bringing it home to mom's alcohol cupboard where it will sit in misery (wine is only happy when it's being drunk)

RedLife · 06/12/2018 10:33

We all drive and I think I probably have pruned the drinkers out of my social circle. I just found a night out with them a bit boring

Do you realise that statement makes you sound like a dick? Or Hyacinth Bucket. Smile

starzig · 06/12/2018 11:42

Seems the OP is now getting negativity for pruning out big drinkers from her social group. I am sure most people would if they weren't too busy getting pie eyed themselves. Drunk people are terrible company for the sober. I tend to hang around other drunks because I know I would be boring as he'll to a tee totaller after a few.

starzig · 06/12/2018 11:44

Cue the 'you don't have to be pie eyed to enjoy a couple of drinks'. Trust me if someone is stone cold, that couple is very obvious.

Oliversmumsarmy · 06/12/2018 12:57

RedLife

When I go out I want to have a giggle. I want to be having a good chat and catch up
and generally when I go out with my non drinking friends laughing so hard that Tena lady would come in handy.

The drinking friends are just boring. They have difficulties following conversations. Over the evening they repeat themselves and at least one ends up crying probably because they have been on the gin.

If dumping boring people makes me a dick then I would rather be a dick than having to go to one more night out with a load of drunken people.

Our local hospice asks for alcohol donations for the patients drinks trolley

MadameJosephine · 06/12/2018 14:09

I’ll swap you got the bottle of alcohol free wine I won in DD’s school Christmas fayre tombola? I was so disappointed!

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 06/12/2018 14:21

I also have teens

Are you sure the alcoholic content of these bottles hasn't been replaced with water...? Wink

LIVIA999 · 06/12/2018 14:28

The hospice local to us often appeals for drinks to go on their drink trolly. Maybe the stuff you can't sell you could donate to something like that. I'm sure there would he very grateful.

MrsGrindah · 06/12/2018 14:29

OP Your comment about not donating to an old people’s home sounded unnecessarily sniffy. Are older people not allowed to drink then?

BundyLancroft · 06/12/2018 14:52

Oh dear. I can see how this thread is going to go.

SilverySurfer · 06/12/2018 14:54

So you don't want the wine but you don't want to give it away. Leave it for long enough and it will have turned to vinegar, then you can pour it down the sink - job done.

Surely there’s a big difference between getting absolutely hammered and enjoying a glass of wine at the weekend.

CommunistLegoBloc · 06/12/2018 15:18

Give it to a hospice, give it to an old folks’ home, give it to a charity auction.

Lots of nice, kind suggestions that you’ve ignored or mocked. Why don’t you just admit that you want to make some ££ off gifts you’ve been given...

RedPandaMama · 06/12/2018 15:24

Wow OP, this went from asking for advice to being a condescending snob about anybody who drinks.

You ask for advice but you don't want to get rid of your wine, you don't want to give it to old people or school raffles... Maybe drink a bottle with a straw and lighten up.

Snog · 06/12/2018 15:31

I would give it as presents to people - teachers, bin men, doctors surgery staff, hospice staff and patients is a great idea.

Or donate to a charity auction perhaps for your school or favourite charity.

If you want something for it there are Facebook swap groups.

thebabysmellsofpooagain · 06/12/2018 15:35

Locally, we have a cancer hospice that operates a 'drinks trolley' for the patients and they are always looking and are massively grateful for any donations! The drinks they give the patients are free of charge.

Maybe see if you could donate to something similar?

Good luck! X

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 06/12/2018 16:07

How do you not know any drinkers?
I found this incredibly hard to believe you have a bottle worth 850 when you don't even drink!
If I was spending that amount of money on a gift I would be certain the person drank alcohol ffs
