Where to get rid of alcohol

We are tea total. I don't know anyone who drinks more than a glass of wine occasionally.

The issue is I seem to have amassed from tombolas, raffles or DD getting given the odd bottle from work now and then a stock of alcohol.

Where do people get rid of it.

Some of it is obviously very expensive wine.

(6 bottles in a hamper from Harrods and just had another hamper delivered)

Even got a big bottle in a case that is supposed to be around £850 for a bottle and this is a magnum.

The issue is I would like to get rid of it but I don't know where.

Is there somewhere I could get vouchers for something I actually want or somewhere it can be sold.

The very expensive wine will be harder to sell to a business as buyers will most likely think it has been improperly stored (i.e. not to professional standards) and will have deteriorated.

If it's been kept somewhere dark, cool and facing slightly downwards for not too long it's probably still in decent condition. If it's just been in a cupboard upright then it may not be in great condition.

However, it's only time and effort to try and find out what you could get for it.

Lots of people can drink a bottle of wine, not sure why you think it would go down a sink

I am sure lots of people can it is just that I don't mix with these people.
Nor do I have guests over who drink.

I went out yesterday for a birthday meal for a friend.
Some one ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate. A few glasses were poured and were handed round but most just stuck to water and passed the glass on. 1 bottle between 30 seemed about right.

it has. I placed it how it was supposed to be placed years ago and there it has stayed.

Send it to a willing buyer on mums net. This really isn't a problem.

gamerchick · 03/12/2018 18:30

Just donate them somewhere else as raffle prizes. Every single small charity/school/support group etc is looking for raffle prizes right now.

My alcoholic father very recently passed away. We returned his bottles to the main government operated shop for full refunds on all bottles with an intact seal.

FadedRed · 03/12/2018 19:04

As pp said, your local auction house will sell it.

tatyr · 03/12/2018 19:19

I believe that some hospices take unopened alcohol for their residents to have a tipple.

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/12/2018 21:15

I am going to get in touch with the London wine company or failing that I did see that there are wine auctions and hopefully they will take the Harris’s Hampers. 6 bottles I think there are in a lovely wicker case.

At least I will get rid of a cupboard full of stuff. I might see if they will take the other random bottles as a job lot or get rid of the stuff at a more local auction.

I might set up a company that buys and sells random bottles of booze. I am sure I cannot be the only non drinker who ends up with random bottles of booze

Who are these people?!

anniehm · 03/12/2018 22:05

Re gift, local charities for their raffles, if it's pricey stuff try a dealer but it would need to be very high end. Teacher/cleaner etc gift. Would love to have your problem!

You definitely have a different circle of friends to me, I have teenagers too, drink anything!

Titsywoo · 03/12/2018 22:09

Jeez, I'm no alcoholic but one bottle of champagne between 30 people?

Charley50 · 03/12/2018 22:09

I'll have it! Smile

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/12/2018 22:28

CommunistLegoBloc

We all drive and I think I probably have pruned the drinkers out of my social circle. I just found a night out with them a bit boring.

I also have teens

Please make sure you store in properly, a decent bottle will be absolutely fucked kept upright in a warm cupboard for months.

delilahbucket · 03/12/2018 22:41

Please don't try to sell it yourself op. You need a licence to do this.

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/12/2018 22:42

It has been properly stored in a cellar for years

One bottle between 30?

I am an events organiser and the industry standard is half a bottle per person for an evening function.

And I always double that as a minimum.

A standard champagne bottle will yield 6 125ml glasses (standard measure), so either 80% of your friends are teetotal or you're sipping from thimbles.

gamerchick · 03/12/2018 22:47

Who are these people?!

People who obviously don't want to buy this alcohol. Maybe there's someone on here who will want it Wink

Indeed - why bother with alcohol when you can be buoyed up on your own sense of superiority?

Myusernameisunique · 03/12/2018 22:51

I honestly promise I could give it all a loving home and the appreciation it deserves. Problem solved and you're welcome! Grin

barleyreed · 03/12/2018 22:52

Most reputable auction houses will be licensed to sell alcohol, then you could get some £££ for it!
