Ok so I’ve bought a smart TV as i didn’t want to subscribe to a TV package

We are renting a new place and there doesn’t seem to be an Ariel - there is a connection to virgin and sky though

Does this mean I can’t watch TV without a sky etc package?

I’ve just split up with ‘D’H and moved into a rental with DD, so I’ve never had to do this before!

have you tried plugging it into the connection and re tuning your tv?
We actually watch tv plugged into the satellite dish that was on the wall when we moved in so that works as an aerial (we don’t pay for any sky package) -what sort of connection is it?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 02/12/2018 19:12

If you have an internet connection you can watch terrestrial TV with it. Sky comes with Netflix, with Virgin you have to get a subscription.

Newhouse76 · 02/12/2018 19:13

There isn’t a satellite dish here which is the issue

Out smart tv connects to the internet and then we stream everything we want, now tv, iPlayer, itv player etc. We don’t have an aerial.

Diorissimo1985 · 02/12/2018 19:14

You can get a digital aerial and get free view channels

VisitorsEntrance · 02/12/2018 19:14

Without a one you are looking at virgin or sky I think.

amymel2016 · 02/12/2018 19:15

You can get a freesat box and watch it through the sky cable, that’s what we do.

bevelino · 02/12/2018 19:19

Do you have Sky, BT box, Now tv, or Virgin media? If you have then you don’t need an aerial as they run from the internet. If you haven’t got a media package, you can buy an internal digital aerial from Amazon for less than £20.

Newhouse76 · 02/12/2018 19:21

Ah ok so I need an internet digital Ariel? I don’t have a box

If so I can order a digital Ariel tomorow

You can use an Amazon fire stick to access apps like bbc iPlayer more4 etc. One off payment for the stick.

I have set this up for the live in carers looking after my parents. No aerial in bedrooms but smart tv with fire stick has solved the issue.

It doesn't give you access to live tv (except via bbc iPlayer I think).

I tried the aerials that you plug in and try and find the right place for a signal ....it was very hit and miss.

Molakai · 02/12/2018 19:24

Also with an aerial you have no means to pause or watch catch up or record anything.

Newhouse76 · 02/12/2018 19:26

This isn’t great bu the sounds of things 😳

Had promised DD some TV before bed!

How old is dd? Can she watch on a tablet or phone?

We have a smart tv and never had an external aerial in our old flat, we just bought a booster aerial that you plug in to the mains. It worked fine!
