Should I try to relearn the violin again after 20 years?

I had a mad idea just now that I want to buy another violin and relearn it after not playing for 20 years. I sold mine at aged 18 before I went to uni, and I had managed to get to Grade 5.

I’m not sure if I can afford lessons now but do you think it would be a bad impulse buy that would sit gathering dust eventually? And will I even be able to remember to play again?!

Maybe I should buy a cheapy one from China before I decide it is just a fad idea for Christmas... Hmm

No! Go for it. I started playing the cello 30 years after I gave up the violin. I was never at the level that you were at but i've had a lot of pleasure it and made several new friends.

I still have mine, also got to grade 5. I gave up during my A levels but would love to take it up again. I’m not my music reading skills are still there though! I say go for it.

Yes, yes. Lots of fun. I got to grade 6. now enjoying playing along with my children as they learn, and sawing away playing stuff i can manage and trying new music. Lovely. And I'm improving. There's a rehearsal orchestra at our local music centre where adults play together for fun. About gr5 standard. You could find a group once you're back in the swing of things.

Meditation was on the Grade 7 list a few years ago OP, so it might be a bit more accessible than you think Smile

Yes. That’s a great idea. Go for it!
