Anime - clue me in?

10yo DD has bought herself an anime colouring book (Hobbycraft) and is fascinated by it. I am thinking of getting her an age appropriate graphic novel for Christmas but have no idea where to start. I am completely clueless - help! What is the difference between anime and manga? Where is the best place to buy these? Which ones should I avoid?

Thanks

My son just told me ... animé is cartoon/television ie animation and manga is comics

My DS loves manga, they have a good selection in Waterstones. The books are all back to front but once she gets used to it...

If you have one, go into waterstones and have a look at them.

Dd1 says that LoveLive is a good manga series for a 10 year old.

I got my ds anime DVDs for Xmas last year from Amazon and there are some great films on there ...lots of reviews so you can see what's appropriate...some beautiful stories

Your DD might enjoy the films also, some, like a lot of the Studio Ghibli films are wonderful and suitable for kids.

I'd recommend Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and best of all my Neighbour Totoro which is in my opinion the best children's film ever. My (grown up) DS and I watch a lot of anime Smile
