Periods...

Posting here for traffic. I’m now into my 9th day of my period. I’m not very good at paying attention to exactly when I get them and how long they last though I have noticed they are more random the past year. I felt this one came earlier than expected but that could just be my bad memory. I have been feeling quite worn out and exhausted with a bad cold anyway and have been taking medicine for that (shop bought) plus have been taking ferrous fumerate twice a day and a vitamin d tablet once a day for the past 4 or 5 days in the hope of boosting my energy levels. Would any of this have had an impact on my period and why it’s lasting so long when it’s usually around 5 days? It was heavyish to begin with then sort of seemed to be finished but now just keeps trickling out, not a lot but still definitely there.

Thanks for any ideas/comments.

How old are you? Is it likely to be menopause?

BooseysMom · 01/12/2018 19:23

Hi @hmmwhatatodo... can i ask how old you are? I've been in bed all day with what i think is a tummy bug but may also be a v bad period. The pain isn't the usual lower ab cramp but instead I feel like I've been kicked in the middle of my stomach and i have a constant headache. I've also had a cold and still have a nasty cough. my periods don't usually last over 4 days so 9 is a lot. I'm 46 and i think heading towards pero-menopause.. I've never had a period this bad. I'm only taking vit c and folic acid as we've been ttc but at my age hope is running out.
Hope you get sorted

Hi, I’m 40. I was hoping it was because I’ve been feeling ill (it’s going around at work) and for some reason I wondered if the ferrous fumerate might somehow have kick started it, not sure why I thought that! I had the lower back cramps yesterday that you get when your period is coming. I don’t have any stomach pain, I just feel tired (always do though) and for a few weeks life was feeling quite overwhelming but it isn’t so bad now. Menopause... ugh, already?!

Just a little bump for more opinions...

@hmmwhatatodo..sorry I'm not sure about the ferrous fumerate. I think anything different in your body can cause changes to normal cycles? Is it the first time it's been like this? Maybe get the gp to run some hormone and thyroid tests? I had those and everything was normal it said

Thank you Boosey. I’m thinking back to Christmas last year when I went to the doctor as I had finished my period and then it suddenly started up for a couple of days and I went and did a urine sample but was told I was fine. It has been more irregular I guess but never lasting this long. Ok, it’s more of a trickle now, like when your tap hasnthat annoying drip..... drip. I’m not massively worried it’s somthing scary but I wish I could just figure out what’s going on and why I’m feeling so exhausted on top of my usual tiredness. Doctors never seem very helpful so I very rarely go. I tried taking multivitamins for a couple of months but they really had no effect either way. Guess it’s back to try and attempt to get a doctors appointment. Thanks for responding! And hope you feel better soon too.

@hmmwhatatodo...i'm the same about doctors. I'd rather not go unless I really have to (like a man I guess!).
I also have tried multi vit's and they didn't help. I remember watching a prog about how they're a big con and you end up with expensive pee!! But then I'm always being told by the nurses I work with to take vit c and zinc soluble so who knows?! They all have different opinions. May be it's the time of year not helping and that SAD thing. When did your mum go thru the change? Mine was 50 but she had it tough for years so I'm dreading it.
Thanks for your lovely msg Smile.. I'm not so bad today and reckon it's def a tummy bug at the same time as AF! The two together aren't much fun!
