What the hell is going on, the Daily Mail has become a drip feed of anti royalism, oh he hasn`t taken on the Queen yet. Then brexit a complete u turn. The guy is a champagne socialist, living high on the hog with the aristos. then sticking in the knife.

You could always depend on the DM to be right wing, it sold papers why are they biting the hand that feeds them. Even the Guardian is scratching its head.

The articles do not even pretend to be even handed these days. I guess they think we are all stupid and can maintain their readership whatever bile they spew out.

I’m not sure from your post whether you are a committed fan of the daily mail, or whether you are merely looking on askance at the situation.

However, if you are the former and looking for sympathy or mutual agreement, I fear mumsnet might not be quite the right place.

It will be interesting to see if Geordie continues the ‘Posters on the parenting website Mumsnet...’ arcticles though- I have an image of some poor work experience aid who has to trawl through here looking for outrageous threads that can be spun into articles Grin.

MedicinalGin · 01/12/2018 13:34

I agree though- there has been a marked change in tone not that I ever look at the daily mail

madmum5811 · 01/12/2018 13:49

I am askance. I like to read across the media, right wing, left wing, centrist press to hopefully glean facts out of the stuff thrown at us. I do find the vitriolic tone of the DM way out of kilter. It is like McDonalds suddenly going vegan. With a background in marketing myself, the DM was a stupendous success with its attitude, so why in gods name would they go down this road, what market are they aiming for. Why alienate their core readership which give them good advertising revenues to chase the left wing market.

Reading about their editor whose ancestors bowed down to the throne"Greig is the son of the late Sir Carron Greig and Monica Stourton, granddaughter of the 24th Lord Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton, and members of his father's family have been royal courtiers for three generations — including his twin sister Laura, who was a lady-in-waiting to Diana, Princess of Wales.[3] He attended Eton College and St Peter's College, Oxford." , has he got a chip on his shoulder, is his Texan wife behind it, I really am baffled.

It seems financially such a stupid slant to take.

It seems Lord Rothermere hired him so I looked to see how old he is thinking doddering old fool, but he is only 50, so that is not an excuse.

Peter Hitchens and Quentin Letts gone. Littlejohn I wonder might be worth a punt at the bookies, I wonder what the odds are.

Lord Rothermere is a "non dom" who lives in France.
It dawned on him that hard Brexit would hurt him personally

so when Dacre retired, he gave the job to the chap from the Sunday Mail
the Mail prints whatever will deliver clicks
they have no "policy"

madmum5811 · 01/12/2018 14:36

Looking at the share price since Greig took over, hope my pension is not involved too heavily, even with their online presence they have lost £1.40 a share.

It’s free on line...so I have a look.

Don’t always click through the headlines

SwedishEdith · 01/12/2018 16:03

To be fair to Rothermere (yes, a sentence I never thought I'd write) he was always a Remainer. But he chooses (or chose!) not to interfere with DM and MoS's editorial policy.

ForalltheSaints · 01/12/2018 16:35

If fewer people buy the Paper that Supported the Blackshirts, this is a good thing.

madmum5811 · 02/12/2018 12:44

Umm.. palace hunt mole who is giving info. to the media... well unless the DM are dreaming it all up, they know exactly who the mole/s are.

I know I have worked in places where this would be a sackable offence with serious consequences.

Greig`s family work for the Royal family, is this just revenge on them??

Uneducated right whingers are dying out?

Patroclus · 02/12/2018 14:12

And it has always seemed to me, nobody quite likes bashing the royals as much as royalists. They're a bizarre breed.

That is a good point, I am not a royalist, but do not envy them tiaras, carriages and all the paraphanalia that comes with the job. Perhaps Geordie is a cross dresser grin]

The DM prints slightly less bollocks than it did under Dacre. Nonetheless it still prints lots of bollocks.

The change in Brexit stance reflects the changing views of the country.

I don't see the problem.

madmum5811 · 02/12/2018 14:40

Bombadier it is the lack of objectivity. Which I guess did not matter to them when they were just looking to make money, which they did amazingly successfully. Now they do not seem to know what they are, which as I said from a marketing point of view seems suicidal.

It is like Starbucks going all healthy only selling decaffeinated or herbal teas and whole food snacks. You are confusing your solid customer base without attracting new customers if you go about it the wrong way. To spin around 180 degrees in the space of a few months is risky. They have sold their customer base a diet of foaming at the mouth stuff for many decades, thrown in a Kardashian type diet, now they wish to be taken seriously.

Their share price is not looking great, physical sales down, at present free online, how long for who knows.

It would be interesting as a case study if I were at uni.

Interesting to see another U turn re: The Harry Meghan hate fest. For the last few days all the articles have been spinning positives. I wonder if sales, ad clicks have been dropping so they have had to shut down the criticism.

OP posts:
madmum5811 · 11/01/2019 12:05

Ah looking at the share price for the past six months, is illuminating. It had dropped £2.20 from September to 10th December.

Hes likely told them to piss off or they wont give them a thing when the baby is born.

madmum5811 · 12/01/2019 21:03

So its all about the money once again
