... and so I'm bringing you an "Advent calendar" with a scene or two each day of what the Playmoland people are getting up to in the run up to Christmas.

Today in Lowbeach-on-Sea, Marta and her son Franz are putting up their Christmas decorations.

@SoMuchToBits playmobil should be paying you!!

Deathraystare · 09/12/2018 08:27

Thanks for these images! Sadly none of my family had anything to do with Playmobil so never had the joy of playing with them. Also never had any Sylvanian Woods stuff. Really deprived obvs!

Chaircat, Playmobil is similar to Lego, in that they are both made from plastic and have bits that you put together, but my ds certainly played with them differently. With Lego the main thing for him was building stuff. He would build a Lego kit from the instructions, and then often take them apart and recombine them as different things. He used the minifigures a bit, but didn't make scenes out of Lego so much.

With Playmobil, there is still some building involved (especially with the actual buildings, e.g. the hospital/fire station etc) but he used Playmobil much more for setting up scenes.

Danni, I think it's the other way round at the moment! I've been buying sets from Playmobil in order to create scenes (although we had a lot of the sets already).

Anyway, today at the Christmas market people are stopping to listen to the little organ playing festive tunes.

There is a Santa's grotto at the Christmas market, and Marta has taken Franz to see Father Christmas.

Father Christmas gives Franz a gift - it's a lovely teddy bear! Franz is delighted and says thank you to Father Christmas.

I hope we're going to see the royals celebrating Christmas too?

On a side note, OP, I was looking at a map of Kent recently for dull travel reasons and spotted Ospringe and Bapchild! I nearly hyper-ventilated with excitement!

SoMuchToBits · 09/12/2018 09:39

Irene, some royals may possibly make an appearance...

Grin about Ospringe and Bapchild.

We have singing round the christmas tree on the village green on christmas eve, so that, or a good oomp-a oompa-a brass band like the Sally Ann playing carols to sing along to, is my perfect start to christmas. Oh, and big glasses of blue wine tooWink
Does Lowbeach have a brass band, I wonder?

It's getting really exciting, isn't it?

SnugglySnerd · 09/12/2018 12:48

This has really brightened my day. Thank you.

Lovely thread. Thank you Flowers

SoMuchToBits · 09/12/2018 20:14

Thank you all. I've been busy today setting up more scenes. Hopefully that is most of it done now, and I just need to keep posting them...

Bits thank you again, but I can't help wondering, with all the 'germanic' type names are we looking toward a brexit scenario in this advent calendar?

SoMuchToBits · 09/12/2018 21:24

Haha, elephant, the Germanic names are because we have so many Playmo characters, we were running out of English names.

So the "winter" themed people tend to have Germanic names, the modern living people often have Welsh names, the Harbour people have Scottish names etc. The Knights mostly have place names from Kent, e.g. Sir Ospringe Bapchild, Sir Biddenden Smeeth etc.

This all started to happen well before Brexit! Grin

Xmas Grin ... Thank You!

Posting early today, as I will be going out to work soon and won't be home until after 8 this evening.

Today Father Christmas is busy checking his list, while his elf Pip is sorting through all the toys for the children.

LotsToThinkOf · 10/12/2018 06:30

I'm loving this! How did I miss your previous Playmo threads? Thank you, this is great GrinGrin.

Eatmycheese · 10/12/2018 09:11

I love the fact that Father Christmas has a quill to write his "nice" list!
No tablets here thank you very much Smile

Bookmarking!

FuzzyCustard · 10/12/2018 16:59

I love the backgrounds you do! Obviously I love the characters and scenes too (and the Kentish names) but am deeply impressed that here isn't just your sofa in the background! Santa's wooden chalet - brilliant!

SoMuchToBits · 10/12/2018 20:34

The background was from a previous Playmobil advent calendar, which we had when ds was younger - the Christmas in the Post Office one.

SoMuchToBits I've just worked out what you do for a living; you're the creative director, right?
